National Power Houston

National Power of Houston signed 12 month contracts with customers in Texas to provide electricty at 11 cents per KWh. Because of the increase in national gas prices, they determined they couldn't meet this obligation. They sent letters to their customers, approximately 15,000, telling them they were canceling their contracts and increasing the price to 15 cent KWh. The Texas PUC stepped in and told them they couldn't change the contracts. Then National Power simply decided to dump their customers and no longer do business in Texas.

We had legal contracts with this company to provide electric service at 11 cents KWh. They should be held liable for walking out on their legal obligations. Also, I'd to somehow see the Texas PUC included in this lawsuit for not protecting the Texas consumers.

Case Details:
I tried to switch immediately once notified by NPC that tyhey were going out of business. I switched to Direct Energy but apparently the switch took 45 days . However, I called on Junes 15 th to Amigo Energy and was told by one of their employees that my final bill was like $30. Then I did not recieve a bill from anyone for quite somtime until yesterday from Amigo. They billed me at a rate at least 6 to 7 cents higher than they they charge their regular customers.

So now I have a huge electricity bill that I cannot afford and dont know what to do.

Switched to the POLR (amigo) and was charged .2469. On the first day, I switched to Direct Energy for .138. It took 42 days for the switchover and Amigo billed me for $1,680. So I am all for suing the PUC, Amigo, and National Power Company

I payed 23 cents per kWh for one month with a provider of last resort and am now paying 15 cents per kWh with another provider. This is compared to the 11 cents per kWh I had under contract with National Power.
