Description

04/04/2008 More info received from the consumer:

I found out that this store was not supposed to charge me a $15.00 account change fee for dropping this number at all. As of April 4th, Cricket did not drop my unneeded number yet as requested and I have to have a 3rd party assist me into getting this point through to Cricket. This cricket store frauds their customers in this manner with unnecessary fees.

Cricket advertises an unlimited plan. I am paying for the highest plan they have available. However, their definition of an unlimited plan is that I am still connected to the internet. I bought this service specifically to connect to the internet via my gaming devices and computer for school. After a week or two of service, my internet speed has slowed to a speed that is somewhere around dial-up. At times, it takes 5-10 minutes for a page to even load. When I called Cricket to ask why it was so slow, they told me that it would be slow until the next billing cycle because I had reached my usage level limit. Well, no one told me anything about this when I bouoght the device and paid for service. If I had been informed of this, I would have not bought this service and would have spent my money on a service that would provide continuous internet throughout the entire billing cycle. Cricket is try to rip off their customers like At&t and they need to pay for it!

Case Details:
I have been cyber stalked, cyber bullied, and experience cyber espionage by using cricket broad band services for the pass 2 years. The service connects to a band of hackers using a VPN(Virtual Private Network) to avoid detection. Every time I complain to cricket, they deny that cyber crimes exist on my service. Computer logs of the service and Firewall logs do not lie. Digital Evidence was taken of this crime in progress. I have suffered emotional distress behind this with proof.

I currently have a cricket account and live in Sand Springs, OK. On my bill every month I am being charged Tulsa city tax, not county which sand springs is in Tulsa county, but city. I called twice to ask them about this and unfortunately had a language barrier with the representatives. I then tried to contact them through their help link only to be told that although I had all of the account info, I needed to call in to have my billing looked at so that they could verify who I was. I then sent them a second help ticket advising that I had done this and was unable to get the representative to understand or answer my question, to which they apologized and told me they couldn't do anything unless I called in. At this point I called cricket corporate headquarters here in the US and left a message as no one answered my call. This was over a month ago and I have yet to hear from them. I can't imagine how much money they are collecting for taxes that never actually go to taxes. Sand Springs does not benefit from the city of Tulsa's tax revenues, so I am at a loss as to how it is possible for them to be charging this. How many other people are out there who are being charged. Final note, I've had this account for about a year now and this is the original address, it has never been changed, so it wouldn't be a carry over from an old address.

Cricket is refusing to refund my money after me being unable to use my cell phone. Since cricket is a pay-in-advance company, if no service is provided, then my money which was already paid for a month, should be refunded if i am unable to use my phone. my signal was lost (this is the second time) and if i have no signal then cricket should not be able to keep my money. i filed with the bbb, got a response from the bbb that stated that cricket would not refund my money because i had used my phone well into the billing cycle. this is a lie. my bill was due on the 17th of every month. i lost my signal on the 16th and called and complained. since i was not able to use my phone for the entire cycle, i should be refunded.

Here is the complaint I just wrote to the FTC and BBB for my recent experience...

Cricket advertises a broadband mobile card that has speeds of 400-700 kb/s. After activation, I received speeds of about 32 kb/s on my laptop, which is basically unusable and no where close to the advertised broadband speeds.

The sales representative at this location told me when I bought the modem and first month of service that there were no returns at all. I tried to return the device in person two days later but the manager was not there so no one knew how to process the return.

I called the next day multiple times and at first received the same knee jerk response that they did not not do refunds. Then they said they would call customer service and try to get the modem working. They called back 1 hour later and asked me if it was working. I told them I hadn't even tried it again, and they quickly told me I could return it today, but it had to be today because they have a 3 day return policy. However, they could not refund the $28 activation fee because Cricket headquarters had no mechanism to return this fee to them and they were already charged for it.

I called Cricket customer service and after a 1/2 hour hold time reached a representative and then escalated it to a manager. The manager refused to refund the $28 activation fee.

Final conclusion, this practice has to be some sort of fraud and against some law. They sold me a device that didn't work as advertised, I had trouble returning it because someone capable of doing the return wasn't on site and initially lied to me and told me they had no return policy even though it was actually 3 days.

The most blatantly fraudulent thing is that they refused to refund a $28 activation fee for a device that never worked anything close to how it was advertised. This has to be against some sort of consumer protection law. Cricket seems to be a large reputable company. I've never had such a ridiculously bad customer experience with what appears to be a large reputable company.

Please stop them from what seems to be a highly illegal practice.

i have been trying for days to get information for the police to show them that outgoing calls have in fact been made from my phone which had been stolen this last week. i was first forced to go out and buy a new phone open a new account and was told i could only get the information from cricket if i paid them 125 dollars. my loss is that i have not been able to take information to police to in order to go after criminals that burglarized my home and wiped me out. if they cannot prosecute then i am not considered a victim of crime and only victims of crime are eligable for victims compensation fund through the state of arizona.

Cricket just without notice suspended my account on August 2, 2008 before I had a chance to pay for service for the month to keep account active. Cricket assessed a $15.00 reactivation fee for September of 08' for reactivating the account back in August. The fee has caused un known financial damage for myself and my spouse.
Cricket does not give customers specific day of disconnection notices before accounts are suspended, then charges $15.00 for reactivation a month later.
