Case Summary:
They hang up on customers and place them on hold forever. I have never dealt with a company like this. In addition to not being able to talk to my husband, I have had a horrible experience dealing with this company just trying to pay my bill.Global Tel Link will not allow call to go through, even though the monthly bill I get from them shows a credit of $126.73. I keep having to add money on top of this. The company is an absolute scam of immense proportions. I call and am on hold for AT LEAST 45 minutes each time. I am never given any information that is remotely helpful.

The employees of this company are rude, I've been cursed at, hung up on, called names, laughed at, and one even said that I was wasting his time before hanging up on me. There are no supervisors at this company and all they do is take your money. They monopolize the industry as they are the only ones that allow calls to your phone and their word is law.

There are infinite complaints regarding this company and it's unproffessional practices. The only thing that they can do properly is bill you and make it near impossible to reach a human o the phone.

I am 2x Cancer Mom of 1 son whom was aressted on May 290,2010He called me collect 3 times then I got message that My Phone was blocked so I called my company comcast and said I am not Blocked soGLT told me I had to open account for gim to make collect calls to me I gave 75.00 they took 14.85 left 60.00 balance 1 ten minute call cost 20.00 my money was gone in 3 calls. I had 5.00 left John called me we said Hello and call was cut off. I called GLT they said the it cost 5.00 for 18 seconds I got my bill from comcast my calls were 10,00. They blocked my phone again i had to pay again 75.00 on account .. They are so wrong If I didn't need to talk to my son so bad because I may dIE...I would never pay that amount... I am on SSI

I have been ripped off repeatedly by GTL during the time my boyfriend was in jail awaiting his trial and sentencing. Understanding that there is a processing fee, I would prepay $25, however the fees were never consistent. After the fees were assessed, there were times I would have a balance of $23, $21, and at others times, even less.

When he was moved to the county workhouse, I prepaid his account in the amount of $25. He has tried repeatedly to call me to no avail. I contacted GTL on several occasions and they assured me that my account has a balance of $21 and that there is no blocks or restrictions on my number. However, my boyfriend still can not contact me. I had no problem with connection issues other that a lost call or bad connection when he was in the county jail but his calls always came through. It wasn't until he moved to the workhouse that I started to experience this. We are forced to use this company, yet we are being ripped off and abused to no end.

My husband is incarcerated in the Maximum Security Unit in AR, and at the Pine Bluff unit before that. Both units used GTL as their phone service provider. I have had numerous issues with this company. They charge enormous fees for a 15 minute phone call (over $6, with around $3 of which is charged just to connect the call). They corner you into having to use their pre-paid program by putting a block on your phone regardless of your account being in good-standing. Why? Because if you have a pre-paid account, they get to charge a 20% service fee. For example, if I put $25 on my phone account, they take $5 off the top. In Arkansas, our phone calls are limited to 15 minutes, but GTL will drop the call before the 15 minutes are up, and charge the full-rate. I have never gotten a refund. I am a full-time working mother with two small boys, and with their father being incarcerated, I am the sole provider for my family. I don't mind paying a fair rate to speak to my husband, but GTL is outrageous. For the 20% fees they charge, you would think the customer service representatives would be attentive and friendly. The opposite is true with GTL. When I call customer service I get an automated message saying that due to a high volume of calls, they cannot take my call, but to leave my phone number and someone will call me back within 2 hours. Rarely do I ever get a call back from them. When I do get to talk to an actual person, they are rude, condescending, and unhelpful. I have been laughed at, yelled at, told to "shut up and listen", and hung up on. When I request to speak to a supervisor (or am transferred to one), I have to wait on hold for at least 30 minutes, only to reach a voice mail. My messages have never been returned. I'm fed up with the expense, and being talked down to. However, GTL is the only option I have to talk to my husband, and for my sons to talk to their daddy.

I put 25 on the phone last night, and after one phone call, it says i have no money left. I try to put money on the phone when i get a call from a correctional facility and get disconnected, i call gtl to try to put money on the phone and it says i have the wrong expiration date on my card. the only way i can put money on the phone is to go to the website and they charge me 9.40 to do it. this is a rip off!!!!! i try to call them and the automated answer says they have a high number of calls and to call back. when i call back and get thru it says a rep will call me back with in two hours and not to call back. so i wait and nothing. this is a crock of sh**. i am really disgusted. something needs to be done.

I have been using GTL for 4 months now, every 4 to 5 days I am adding 25.00 to my prepay account. They charge 5.00 for their "Processing Fee" which leaves you with a balance of 20.00. Then I have no "Flat rate" for a phone call, but was told it cost 2.00 to connect the phone call period. After the 2.00 is taken they charge 3-7 cents a minute depending on what time of day it is. That is a Lie, I could be charged 2.45 for a phone phone call, and then 20mins later 3.47 for the same 15min phone call. They even so called "hold" money if the inmate calls twice in one day. The company drop calls, and still charges you for a full 15mins. When you try calling the company, their automactic system tells you " they are experienceing high call volume, and my call cannot be answered at this time" then the call is disconnected! This same message has been playing for two weeks. I have been calling everyday since 3/16/2010; I have yet to talk to a human. When I do get get through to someone its always a different story, Either the system locks because to many people are calling and they cant reconize my number, or the money in the account is being on hold, and never released because the inmate calls too many times in a day. Something must be done about this company I am so Tired of being ripped off!

THEY BLOCK MY PHONE AND I WILL NOT PAY A PREPAID AND EVEN WHEN HE GETS HOME I WILL BE GOING AFTER THESES PEOPLE I STUDY IN SCHOOL RIGHT NOW FOR LAW AND HAS A GROUP WORKING ON THIS PROBLEM. so now is this a new company taking over to save us FOR THE FRAUD or is it that GTL, has changed the name " LLC" so far i think its number 2. because this new company is blocking your phone out the blue but when this is done you need to start a new prepay account . but what happens to the money on your account with GTL well V-CONNECT gives me a number to call because they have to pay you back or what ever way they do that i am still waiting for money that just disappeared a year ago. but wait this number v-connect gives you for GTL 5 days later no call back so v-connect gives me a 20 dollar credit as curtsy as one time billing threw my phone bill what favor did they do bill me 20-bucks theses so they can rob you blind a week later,but how can theses companies bill you threw your phone bill witch i have found to be better because on each of my verizon bills they give you a brake down on each collect calls i state prisons you get a half hour calls my phone company charge was only $3.50 for each half hour call . when we have to prepay like you put $100s in your pre-pay account. but they take a fee. for there services like them giving us a choice and every call you get they take a percentage for you accepting the calls and the percentage for every min so how many call do you get when you have been fees, special charged to death,on top of all the things you have to buy them because the correctional facilities aren't really giving them anything its all on the families and these places no that we have no choice we have to deal with them. this is wrong what these people are doing its wrong there feeding and getting rich off of the inmates family members,single moms ,mothers, E.C.T.

My son is incarcerated in Hil County jail, whom was transferred from McLennan County jail and I havent spoken to in a few days and I didn't know what was going on. He finally attempted to call me first at 11:02 a.m and the recording came on and stated what it normaly states i and also stated that i had twelve dollars and some cents available once it was time for me to press the number to accept the collect call i didnt hear anything so I hung up and my poor son tried calling again at 11:06 I dont know if it was from a different phone or what but the number was different and this time it stated there was insufficient funds available and if I wanted to add more funds to the account that time I couldnt because I had to run to the store and put more money on my prepaid card. And of course I will do it cause I want to talk to my son, this is so heartbreaking that we have to have money taking from us and taken advantaged of because we want to stay in touch with our love ones thats incarcerated. After all that then I had to call and leave a messaage only to have someone return your call in 2 hours. WHO RUNS A COMPANY LIKE THIS, I PRAY WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO PEOPLE THAT IT COMES BACK ON THEM TWICE AS HARD.

We have spent over $350.00 over the past three (3) weeks putting money into an account so that we can speak to our son in jail. We have spoken to him a total of fifteen (15) minutes in broken conversations. The calls get immediately dropped at least half the time, and we have been calling their customer service EVERY NIGHT for the past three (3) weeks! We are now out of money, and cannot speak to our son. We don't even have a collect call block on our phone. We just made the bad choise of using Charter Telephone, and they do not allow calls from any Penal Institutions. As a result, we are at the mercy of this monster of a company. I am 100% sure that someone, no, some people "high up" in our Correctional Department are receiving "kick backs" from this scam and we as AMERICANS should not have to put up with it anymore! We must start a Class Action Lawsuit against this company today! They are making millions by the day, and all of us (who are already suffering enough with loved ones in jail) just have to accept this as a part of life?

I say, "NO WAY!" This company needs to GO DOWN now.

I have been receiving collect calls from my two sons who are inmates in the OKDoc. Just this past weekend, when one of my sons tried to call, he was told my phone number was blocked from receiving collect calls. I have called my phone company and they say there is no suck block. However, they told me that GlobalTellink is the one who puts the block on my phone. How can a company providing the service take it upon themselves to put a block on MY phone? I pay my bills on time.
I had to establish a prepaid account and was allowed one call for a $25.00 deposit. Now they either want me to add more money too the prepay account or receive no calls? Shouldn't I be able to recieve more than one call for $25.00?
This company is to me doing an injustice to the inmates and their families. I feel charges of fraud should be brought against GlobalTellink and send some of the people working there to prison.

Several times I have selected option 8 when receiving a call to hear the cost of the call. Consistently I have heard $1.61 for the first minute and $.14 for each additional minute. When I realized that my balance was falling at a much quicker rate, I called to understand the charges. What I was told was that because I have a cell phone the charges are classified differently to compensate for potential fraudulent calls from out of state. The cost is essential double what I was informed I would be paying through the automated. system. I asked to be transferred to a supervisor, was put on hold and transferred into a voicemail. I don't anticipate getting a call back. I'm pretty sure it's illegal for them to tell me that the costs are one amount and then charge me something different.

i tried to call them several times due to a block on my home phone that at&t said was not coming from them and to call global tel link because they were the ones who had the block on, and that i had dropped calls needing to be credited to my prepay acct. they first told me that it was just because the acct was new and wait a couple of days for their computer to realize the line was okay and then when i asked them about the credit for the dropped calls, because they could verify through their own system the time and date of the dropped calls. then she told me the date of and how many minutes used in in each call, she then proceeded to tell me they didnt refund cell phone calls because they couldnt verify the calls, etc. on cell phone lines after she just did.the next time i called in regards to those issues as well as i had put 50.00 in credit in 2 25.00 calls saying i did not have enough money in my prepaid acct to cover another call. they only accept money deposits of 25.00 and 50.00 and must be paid with a credit card. i was then told out of the 25.00 credit the first 5.00 is taken as a trasaction fee for using the credit card. then the said i could put any dollar amt if i sent the payment via western union however, wesrtern union was going to charge me 10.95 service fee each time i selected to make the payment through them. so the global rep then tells me the calling rates. if local or under 70 miles, then it was a 3.41 connect charge and a .41 tax. then it would be .15 a minute after that with those minutes being taxed again. the call for 20 mins came out to be 7.07 per call. so when asked why it said i needed to add more funds even though my balance was 8.00 and something that their system can't connect went the balance barely covers the call cost. what if i don't have anymore money to put on and i should have had plenty of minutes because i put 50.00 dollars in credit and we had only connected 1 time, so wheres my money then? well sometimes it lets the calls get through so keep trying, i just could not believe what i was hearing. as for the block, she said it was a glitch in the lines and that roughly 70% of phone lines were still being affected, but they had people working on it for the past two months and they had no idea when it wouls be fixed. i later was told by the company that runs conscallhome.com that "there is no way around global tel link" referring to the "block" everyone has on their home and cell phone lines, i don't even have a choice of phone companies so i don't have a choice in the fees that i pay. so not only am i being financially burdened with the cost of this company but the mental anguish of having loved incarcerated and not being able to speak to them regarding their case or anything. but the time it takes to listen to the recordings and then adding more money to my already broke situation. and what with the lies? if they are trying to cover stuff up it's because they know they are doing something wrong. i am so stressed out right now because of this phone situation. everything is suffering because of the lack of control with this situation.

My daughter is 25 yrs old in Polk County, FL. I opened up an account on her father’s phone. The calls will not go through on that number. I have put 155.00 on my account and I’ve only had one 15 min call that told me I have $40.00 left on my account. The other calls would not go through. They said I could view my accounts online. That’s not true. I am denied access every time. I live in Colorado and her father in Texas. She has never been to jail and is scared. Every time she calls it want go thru. This is a violation of her civil rights. I think it is an outrage that the authorities would award a contract to a company and allow them to steal from honest working people! I guess they don’t have time for thieves. (Especially when they have been blessed by the police) I have called several times and can’t get anyone on the phone at Global Tel-Link.

i set up an advance pay account to receive calls from my then fiancee. He was never able to get through to me, because on his end it informed him i had blocked all collect calls. And because my account was not used within 90 days. They dissolved it and just keep my money. I tried to get them to reinstate my funds but with no success. I was told that the problem with the calls being blocked was taken care of and I again added funds. But when he called it still says Im blocking them. It has put a strain on our relationship and we are no longer engadged. Trying to communicate through the mail is a joke seeing how its taken up to a month at times for him to receive a letter from me.

Money disappears off of my account, half the time when money is on the account he still can't get through. They have also blocked my home line, saying they are no longer doing third party billing. This is because they want everyone to go prepaid so they can charge you 10.00 to make a payment. Now, I can't even make a payment with my credit card because they say i have used too many cards in thier system that only western union will work. This company is completely a joke and needs to be put out of business or made to enforce more customer friendly terms.

I have been with GTL for about 2.5 years now and it just get worst, he calls and the voice command is already on the phone speaking once connected within 1 minute calls are hung up on. Cannot get in touch with customer service and when I do I get hung up on or they are so rude and unfriendly you dont want to stay on the phone. Prior to that you wait on the phone 1 hour or more just to get that bad customer service. I know this company owes me so much money I spend about 200.00-400.00 dollars per month on prepaid calls.

I used GTL at both of the jails my fiance was at. They charge different prices depending on where you call from. They would drop calls 1-3 minutes in and then the person would call back and you would accept so they just made the 3.12 for the first minute on the 1st dropped call and 3.12 again on 2nd call plus 15c min. They would disconnect the calls daily and their customer service was rude and refused to credit me back. We also used prepaid calling cards from global tel link the inmates buy them and the prices are supposed to be a little cheaper but it works the same the calls would drop and we lost the money. This company over the course of 7 months took a couple THOUSAND dollars from me and I have the bank statements to prove it. I love to talk to my man. They have a monopoly on everyone there is no choice but to use Global Tel Link. We need to stop this and get our money back. Please file a class action lawsuit against Global Tel Link. You have hundreds of people wanting to sue. None of us can afford lawyer fees, why don't you do the right thing and do it on a contingency basis. If we win you take a fat percent. What can it hurt?

I have a loved one incarcerated. I have to pay about $20.00 for a 15-minute call. This is more than an international call. Than when I try and make a payment, my payment does not post and I have to call customer service and they tell me it is because my account is negative. I tried to explain to the customer service rep that is not correct because before I choose the option to make a payment I checked my account balance and it was positive. Than they tell me that they need to transfer me to a account supervisor to look at my account, who is never available and than I get disconnected. I lose the money that I paid and nothing is ever done about it. This is unfair that a company can just rip people off and nothing is being done about it. I have never seen anyone run a company like this in my life. If they had someone they loved in prison maybe they would understand the people they hurt all day! The families suffer to try and at least hear thier voices to make sure they have family support and try to get them through the hard times. I have had the same experiences that everyone else has with this company. I had a phone carrier and was paying my bill to recieve calls from my son. They have blocked the phone 2 times now and I didn't even know why. I didn't owe this company a dime. I was told that I had to set up an account with them because they owned the phones. If I didn't set up an account I would not be recieving any calls from my son. Then I told them that I didn't want to limit the number of calls that I could recieve from my son because that is the only connections he has to speak with his 4 year old son. I was told I had to put a $50.00 deposit down or that the phone would be blocked at $100.00 since the calls are almost $6.00 a piece that is very limiting. The staff become hostile when you tell them that they have a monoply and are forcing people to use their service. I too have experienced the automatice message cutting into our short 15 minute conversation. The automatic message ask you at the very beginning if you will accept the charges while does this message cut into your conversation 2 more times. This message probably takes up 2 or more minutes of your conversation. I'm sure that we are billed for those 2 minutes. I do not understand how any one company has the right to do what they are doing to the consumer and the inmates. I believe that the inmates are already paying their debt to society so how can this company punish them more.

Every time I receive a telephone call the prompts telling about the service take so long that it cuts into the time I have left to talk. The time starts running immediately when you say hello. This results in GTL getting that much more money. Those pennies add up. I cannot find another company that provides this service. Fortunately my child will be out soon, but I still will testify or whatever is necessary to bring to light the travesty of this company. Out of $50.00 I have prepaid, they Take up to $10.00. Then today I was told that after paying $25.00, only $19.00 go towards the telephone call. These services should be regulated. It is not fair to the families of the inmates.

2. Closed my account for no reason at all.
3. Customer service is completely lacking. No matter what you call for, they "have to send it to research" and they lie about how long it takes to have an answer for you.
4. I was in good standing when they closed my account and they made me pay $25 to have it reopened.
5. They allow me a set number of calls and they count a 5 minute call as being 1 call, even if they cut you off because their system stinks.

THE PROBLEMS BEGAN AT THE START OF ACCEPTING THE CALLS THRU GLOBAL TEL LINK. THEY BLOCKED MY HOME LINE A COUPLE OF TIMES SAYING THAT WE WENT OVER THE $100 CREDIT LIMIT (WHEN I KNOW THATS NOT TRUE BECAUSE I WAS WRITING DOWN THE CALLS). THE FIRST TIME THEY BLOCKED IT, THEY TOLD ME (AFTER WAITING ON HOLD FOR 2 HOURS- YES SERIOUSLY- 2 HOURS) THAT WE WERE ONLY ALLOWED TO ACCEPT $75 DOLLARS IN CALLS. PER THE CONVERSATION WITH A RUDE EMPLOYEE AND THEN THE RUDE SUPERVISOR, THEY GAVE ME WHAT THEY CALL A "COURTESY UNBLOCK" THAT TIME BECAUSE I DIDNT KNOW. THE SECOND TIME THEY BLOCKED MY LINE, THEY STATED (AFTER WAITING ON HOLD A FEW HOURS) THAT I HAD WENT OVER THE $100 LIMIT BY $0.69...COME ON BE FOR REAL!!! $0.69??? OK, THEN I ASKED THE QUESTION ABOUT THE DOLLAR AMOUNT LIMIT. ON THE FIRST BLOCK, THEY STATED THAT IT WAS $75 THEN THE SECOND BLOCK, THEY TOLD ME THE LIMIT WAS $100...OK i SENSED A SIGN OF SHADINESS THEN!!! SO I HAD TO SET UP A PREPAY ACCOUNT....OF COURSE THE PROBLEMS GOT WORSE!!! THERE ARE PROBLEMS AFTER PROBLEMS AFTER PROBLEMS!!! ONCE THE PREPAY ACCOUNT WAS SET UP, THE AUTOMATED SYSTEM WOULD DENY MY CREDIT CARD AND THEN I WOULD STILL BE CHARGED. CALLS WERE DROPPED AND CHARGES STILL STAND. PHONE CALLS ARE BEING SHORTENED TO 6,7,8,9,10 MINUTES AND ONE OF THE RUDE CUSTOMER SERVCE REPS WANTS TO YELL THAT THE CALLS WERE SHORTENED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE PRISON AND THAT THEY CAN SHORTEN THE CALLS WHENEVER THEY WANT.....ME KNOWING THIS IS NOT TRUE BECAUSE THIS IS THE FIRST I HAVE HEARD OF THIS. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS EXTREMELY UNHELPFUL, RUDE, INCONSIDERATE, AND NONCHALANT!!!! SUPERVISORS ARE AS WELL. THEY PUT YOU ON HOLD AND SAY THEY ARE TRANSFERING YOU TO A SUPERVISOR AND YOU GET ANOTHER AUTOMATED SYSTEM OR VOICEMAIL TO LEAVE A MESSAGE, JUST TODAY I WAS WAITING ON THEM TO CALL ME BACK FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS, ONCE I GOT THE CALL I WAS PLACED ON HOLD AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP STATED HE COULD NOT SEE MY PHONE RECORDS AND THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO GET ME TO A SUPERVISOR...WELL, I WAS TRANSFERRED TO A VOICE MAIL INSTEAD OF A LIVE PERSON. I THEN CALLED BACK AND THE REP WAS RUDE AND BEGAN TO YELL...ONCE I ASK A SUPERVISORS NAME AND HER NAME, SHE REFUSED AND TOLD ME TO HOLD ON SHE WOULD TRANSFER ME. AFTER WAITING ON HOLD FOR 65 MINUTES AND 29 SECONDS, I WAS AGAIN TRANSFERRED TO A VOICE MAIL!!! GLOBAL TEL LINK SUCKS!!!! LETS DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS COMPANY...WE ARE PAYING THE SALARIES OF UNGODLY HUMANS AND MAKING A COMPANY RICH BY RIP-OFF!!!! HELP!!!!

I cannot count how many times I have accepted a call and the phone gets cut off, one of the parties cannot hear or sometimes cannot understand what the other is saying. When you have a problem with their service and call to speak with them you are either on hold for extremely long periods of time or they have a call back system and you have to wait usually about 2 hours for them to call you back. I have had them call back and hang up on me, so I have to go through another 2 hour wait. I have had them tell me numerous times that it is the correctional centers fault for messed up phone calls. Although the correctional center tells me the problem is with Global Tel Link. There is a 19.?% surcharge when you prepay with a credit/debit card. In the last 3 months I have mailed them a payment for my prepaid account. There is not supposed to be a service charge on this, but somehow $15 has come up missing each time I mail them money. My husband will call and it says for example "you have $75.00", our calls are $0.75 each, the next time he calls it says we have $60. I talked to someone there just the other day and they told me it's because the calls aren't posted until the end of the day. This for one is a lie, because again an example, he'll call it will say $50, the next time he calls (a couple hours later) it will say $49.25. Another thing is my husband has never called me 20 times in one day ($15 / $0.75 = 20 phone calls). This woman told me "get a paper and a pen." I had no idea why, but I was like ok. She said "you have deposited x amount of money in this account, you have received x amount of money in phone calls and x amount of money was for service fees, do the math." I told her ok, but this does not tell me details of where $15 has been disappearing every month. She said well i'll send it to research if that's what you want. I told her yes and of course no money has been credited, nor have I received a phone call. This whole company is a scam to rob us all blind. As if having a loved one incarcerated isn't bad enough. They are the criminals.

GTL charges customers enourmous fees for pre-paid accounts. After opening a pre-paid account, customers still can not speak to their incarcerated loved ones. GTL, turns a blind eye to technical problems with their system and refuses to refund customers money. Several prisons report that the problem is not on their end, and is with GTL. However, after countless inquiries and efforts to address the problem, GTL then points the arrow at the prison. No one from the company is taking an active position to correct any problems, let alone refund money for unused pre-paid accounts.

I have a loved one incarcerated. While talking with this person, the call just ends. So, another call is made from my loved one. Each call costing about $4.00 the first minute. We pay our bills on time every month, but this doesn't matter to this company. According to one of their operators, who I have her name, I exceeded MY "magic number of calls" "there are TOO MANY calls being answered". When I asked for this number I was told that I should know it. Funny thing is, I was never told a number. The operators are RUDE and unprofessional. This operator treated me like I was an irresponsible person who didn't pay my bills. Well, she better check again. This woman should be sent to a class on how to speak to people or fired. The company also charges over $10.00 in fees for making a credit card prepaid plan. It is OUTRAGEOUS! I timed the call today. I started off with $61.61 credit, than ended up with $38.00. I was on the phone for 12-13 minutes! Okay, show me how the calls are timed!

Most of the calls hang up, which the inmate has to call again. The incoming minute cost the most so I guess that is the glitch. I am so disappointed in GTL and the DOC because recently my fiance was put on restriction because of the conversation we had they charged him with conspiracy to break DOC rules. He spent thirty days on restriction for nothing and we can't do anything about it.
