Case Summary:
My previous employer offered a package for its employees to leave or layoffs were eminient. Many of us took the package and within the package it stated we should check with our state to find out if we were eligible for unemployment. Many of us gave unemployment a copy of our packages ,were approved and recieved benefits that year(2003-4). In 2005 many of us received letters stating we owed the money back to unemployment. The union hired a lawyer that year to represent us. I personally recevied one letter from that lawyer stating they were handleing the case on our behalf. At some point in 2006, they no longer handled the case and would not give info about who took the case over. We wrote appeals to the state and they were ignored. The case went to the supreme appellet court in the state and we lost 9/2008. However no other details were ever given to us by the union or any lawyer on our behalf. When we attempted to hand the cae with private lawyers they warned they would probable charge more than what we owed. We also know many people took the package and unemployment at the same time and were not named to pay it back( we have some of their names also).
