Case Summary:
PNC BANK has recently started charging NSF fees for "pending" charges that have not even occured yet. They also practice paying checks from high to low in order to generate more NSF fee income.

Case Detail:
I have been debited for many unfair NSF fees on "pending" charges for Visa or Mac/Visa charges that have not even come out of my account yet. My balance never even shows negative yet they charge NSF fees. They also do not show the "pending" charge online until the close of the business day when it is too late to go to a branch or ATM and deposit the amount. Example - I gave authorization to my local newspaper company to debit my account for daily newspaper delivery. The charge of $27 is done automatically every 13 weeks or so and I do not know the exact date it will be posted. Several times the "pending" charge only shows online at the close of business day when it is to olate for me to do anything about it and yet the very same evening I have a regular direct deposit of $2399.80 coming into my account. PNC still charges my account an NSF fee saying the charge was "pending" before the direct deposit went through. This "pending" charge is only shown on your account for approx 8 hours because it shows up at 4:00 PM when the branches and ATMS have closed for the business day and the deposits for the next business day post around midnight. This is a very deceptive practice that only tool affect in the past 6 months or so. I have been unjustly charged $31.00 to $38.00 around 6 to 8 times because of this. My damages only amount to a few hundred dollars but it is on an ongoing basis and if you multiply this by thousands of customers it amounts to a nice piece of change that PNC has figured out to bilk out of it's customers. In addition they practice the policy of paying checks from high to low amounts in order to charge even more NSF fees.

I called PNC Mortgage to inquire about HAMP because I had recently lost my job. They told me what to submit...financial records, hardship letter, etc. They sent me a letter stating my payment would be about $200 cheaper and IF I agreed to the terms to sign, date & return it. The fine print stated my credit score would be affected because these lower payments would cause my account to go into default. I DECLINED THE APPLICATION. In writing and in a phone call. I continued making my FULL PAYMENTS each month. Then I began receiving foreclosure letters & calls. When I called PNC & told them I didn't understand why, nobody could tell me why. They were confused as well. Somebody then told me it looked like I had been enrolled in HAMP without my knowledge and all my payments were going into a suspense account. From then on out, my account was nickel & dimed here & there. Nobody could explain various charges & account transfers. I had gotten behind in my ESCROW account & when I made a $300 payment to replenish it, IT DISAPPEARED. I have a phone call recorded that said the $300 went to pay a "3rd Party", but they couldn't tell me who or why. I have MANY letters back & forth asking PNC to prove to me where my money went. The $300 as well as all the payments that were placed in their so-called "SUSPENSE" account that I cannot see were ever applied to the loan. I was so tired of being sick over the whole manner that I recently sold my house & moved. HOWEVER, PNC needs to be help accountable for taking my money. I want to know where it went. AND/OR I WANT IT BACK. I have a paper print out they sent me of all transactions awhile back that doesn't match what is currently showing online. They have tried to cover up their mess by saying all payments were applied, etc. You may do whatever digging you need to....Read the messages in the message center, etc. as I still have online access thru PNC's website. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

I have account alerts set up to send me emails if my account gets below a certain balance. It works perfectly until it starts getting down to a few hundred dollars or close to an automatic withdrawal or deposit. Then the alerts stop. I will get an alert about 5 am the next morning that my account is overdrawn. It is n ever specific to the amount and its too late to make a transfer. I was charged recenly $288 in fees. It left me with being over drawn by $214. I had enough in the bank to cover all my charges AND pay most of the fees, however the way they minupulated the timing of it resulted in in $288 in fees!

I had requested for PNC to stop ACH debits from a particular institution for a certain amount, twice. They have not stopped, but has allowed the company to continue ACH debits causingoverdrafts and fees along with other significaant fees. I placed the stop payment the first time. I was told that it went through because I didn't state the correct amount. By the time my payroll came through I was overdrawn more than 450.00, 150.00 of it in bank fees. I placed it again and now see that it has posted again. I made sure that it was for the correct amount, so that they couldn't use that excuse again. The stop payment was placed on any ACH from this institution for a certain amount, yet PNC continues to pay them and charge me the fees. I believe that if I stop my direct deposit then they will stop them. Because they can see that my payroll comes in and the amount will be paid regardless of the amount. Leaving me with the fight to get my money back. And I also can't understand why they pay high to low insteadf how the degits post to the account. I can't get a direct reading on my account because if changes on a daily basis.

I had a mortgage with PNC for 7 years. I never missed a payment and my credit is excellent. I have been trying to refinance with them into a 15 years mortgage for the past three months. They are now offering me a refinance rate of 4% while other lenders are offering me as low as 2.75% refinance rate. Additionally, PNC themselves are offering me 2.75% for a 15 years new purchase mortgage rate. When I asked PNC why the huge difference in rates between their purchase rate and refinance rate, there response was that they artificially inflate the refinance rates due to the large volume of refinance applications, which even if true, is unethical and unprofessional

Meanwhile, I think that the real reason PNC is offering me this inflated refinance rate is because they know that that I canít leave PNC for another mortgage Leander because PNC unlike all mortgage lenders or banks keeps refusing to release my SEMA. As a result, if I refinance with another lender, I would have to pay an additional $8,000.00 in closing cost, which makes my refinance not cost effective. Though, while I watch everyone that I know take advantage of the low mortgage refinance rates, I being denied this right and I am being held hostage to PNCís unfair, unethical, and devious practices.

PNC Bank posts, unposts and reposts "pending" transactions in a different order each day. The balance listed is rarely if ever accurate. Not only is the balance not ever accurate, but the balance on, for example, Monday, will no longer be a ledger entry the next day. i.e. The balance changes without a credit or debit to explain why the balance is different. They also supposedly do not process any transactions from Friday night to Monday night, which allows them to display an inaccurate balance on Friday, then charge an overdraft fee for every transaction that you make throughout this 72 hour period of the week. Once Tuesday starts, they can charge $25 for every transaction, no matter how small. They also charged an additional $36 fee for not depositing within 72 hours.

Made a deposit Saturday. This consisted of cash, a check drawn on PNC and a money order for $752 of which they "recognized" $100. They did not recognize the remaining $652 until Tuesday morning which allowed them to assess four $36 OD fees. These fees took my account negative even with the $652 deposit. This allowed them to assess four additional $36 fees the next day for a total of $288 stolen. After an hour on the phone and a trip to the branch they "reversed" $72 of the fees, still leaving my account negative. They also reordered all of the "pending" items to pay them largest to smallest to assess the maximum number of fees. I had to sell personal assets to bring the account positive to stop the next wave of fees (I made that deposit with 26 minutes to spare). I still have five items outstanding which will hit before payday that I now have to contend with (I would have been fine had the bank honored my deposit and not reordered my "pending" transactions).

I have been debited for many unfair NSF fees on "pending" charges, even the charges there I charge ad debit instead of credit. My balance never even shows negative yet they charge NSF fees. PNC states that they only hold pending charges for 3 days. I was even charge NSF fee, for a pending charge the came in the same day that I received my direct deposit; therefore there were sufficient funds available. In addition PNC, once accepted a charge than later reversed the charges, without my consent, which led me to believe of a false balance. Then I spend the amount thinking I had the true amount available. A week later, the Merchant put it through again, and they accepted it again, which put me in the negative. Also, PNC constantly re-arranges charges on my statements to different dates to make it seem that I was in the negative. I will have to start print-screening my online statements everyday in order to prove this. They blame all this on my opt in option. But the issues occurred during my opt out status, as well.

Like so many on here, I too have been charged ridiculous fees for items that posted after my deposit but the bank said they were pending and charged fees which started a domino effect. This has occurred multiple times. I have filed BBB complaints and they just get dropped even though I supply proof that nothing had bounced. And yet just today, I bounced three items which I will take blame for because I used the wrong card while getting gas on my trip but they took an item that had already previously posted a week ago for $1.25 and showed that it posted today. So I got charged another fee for that. If there is ever a class action case, I'm in. Over the past 9 months I have been charged well over $1000 in fees.

I am so frustrated with this bank. I keep getting NSF charges when my account is not showing in the negative. I am a single mother and I cannot afford for them to keep taking these charges out of my account. I have spent countless hours on the phone and on the online chat with these people and they just dance around the question. I just had my payroll check deposited and they have already charged me NSF charges? I want my money back and I want away from this bank.

Let me know how or who I can get to help me with this.

They very well knew and I had just taken them a check for 1600 to cover overdraft fees that they had charged me and even after that they continued to charge over draft fees. I did not know how to stop them. I contacted them through the BBB and they sent some sort of reply to the BBB and that was the end of it. I guess they had everyone fooled. I hope that this is pursued. I would only refer to them as a ponzi scheme and should be handled by the law.

To top it off, I had requested for PNC to stop all ACH debits from my accounts and make it a deposit only. They have not stopped, but has allowed the companies to continue ACH debits continuing to return the items and charging me 36 per item. When I asked the bank to stop, the guy wanted to know becaus Loss Prevention will want to know as well. Loss Prevention means preventing the loss of income PNC recieves from overdrafts even when the client states the account needs to be closed. When I notified them, I was 700 in the rears in fees. Today, I am over 1300. PNC and other banks are going to extremes to keep their overdraft fees in place.

I can't find an attorney that can/will help me. Not sure if it's
because it's "small beans" to them or if they just don't have the
expertise. I need to fight PNC Mortgage Company. I've saved a 2-hr.
phone call & MANY letters. I've been trying to get answers to where my
money went for OVER A YEAR! Unbeknownst to me, I was enrolled in the
HAMP program WITHOUT MY CONSENT. I've made my regular payments ON TIME
EVERY TIME. One PNC dept. told me I was 30 or more days late Sept.
Oct. Nov. & Dec. of 2009. THIS IS NOT SO, nor does it reflect on my
credit report or prior bank statements. I did get behind in my escrow
account because in Sept. 2009 I switched ins. co. to State Farm. I
received a refund check from my prior co. MetLife & I spent it. When I
realized PNC had already paid MetLife, I immediately paid $300 of it
back to my escrow. WHICH THEY ARE NOW TELLING ME THAT $300 WAS PAID TO
TO A 3RD PARTY...BUT THEY CAN'T TELL ME FOR WHAT OR WHO OR WHY....I
HAVE THIS RECORDED! I should have only been behind on my escrow $700
to no more than $1000. My house payment went up about $130 during that
time. Now with the most recent escrow statement, the payment has gone
down about $50. One guy at PNC told me he can see a payment I made
last year just sitting in the "OTHER" column not applied anywhere. WHY
IS THAT?! There have been amounts of money bounced around here & there
that I don't understand at all. I am tired of telling this story over
& over & not getting anywhere with them. When I last called to speak
to someone about the newer HARP program, I was told I didn't qualify
because I didn't have a Freddie Mac loan...but I have a Fannie Mae
loan...I know it qualifies for HARP. He also said it didn't matter
anyway because I wouldn't qualify because of the late payments that
are showing in their system from the time I was enrolled in HARP
without my consent. I WANT ALL OF MY QUESTIONS & STATEMENTS ADDRESSED
BY THEM AND MY PAYMENTS APPLIED PROPERLY. In 2009 I was on
unemployment nearly all year & needed help from them then. They
suggested the HAMP program, but I DECLINED IT & SIGNED NOTHING because
the "fine print" said this would reflect negatively on my credit
report. THEY HAD NO RIGHT TO ENROLL ME ANYWAY! My house payment is so
high now & I'd like to eventually refinance. I need an attorney
because I'm not getting anywhere with PNC other than the runaround and
transferred back & forth to different people who, in the end, cannot
help me. PNC employees are never on the same page. I can't believe
with all the PNC banks in our area, not ONE OF THEM can help me
FACE-TO-FACE. I need someone to go over my entire loan history with a
fine-toothed comb and tell me where my money went.....perhaps my house
payment could be at a more manageable level if they fixed THEIR
screw-ups. I will have a little bit of money for a retainer if
necessary in April. I know there are MANY others who have had issues
with the PNC switch from National City. I didn't have any problems
until then. As a single mom of two, that money meant a lot to me for
it to just "be paid to some unknown 3rd party". The pain of being sent
"late payment" letters & receiving "late payment" phone calls WHEN I
WAS NEVER LATE feels like it's worth SOMETHING as well.

I've been a nervous wreck. Every time I call them or even while I type
my story to you I spring an instant headache.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE??? Or can you please point me in the right direction?
Thanks so much for your time!!!

Sincerely,
Becky Fee

When National City Bank was still around I had direct payroll deposit. NCB usually took about an extra 36hours to recongize my deposit compared to other local banks. However when PNC took over they took 48-72 hours long than NCB. My payroll check was being entered into my account 4-5 days after payday. What makes matter worse is that they never informed me that there would be a delay. So the small purchases I made on day 3-4 all bounced. What should have been about $150.00 cost me over $800.00 after NCF and bank charges. Even worse is that the day found out I had NFC they wouldn't submit a electronic transfer for 48 hours.

Since NSF/OD rules have changed, PNC has started charging fees for items that are listed in "pending transactions" before they post. The last posting day for PNC was 11/24/2010 and the next business day was 11/26/2010 because 11/25 was Thanksgiving. On the morning of 11/26 there were two items in my pending transactions list that were scheduled to post that night. I knew they were coming in and had a deposit I needed to make to cover the items. Because I knew the items would not actually "post" to my account until the end of business that I day, I thought if I made my deposit it would cover the items. Well on 11/27 when I checked my account, I saw that PNC had credited my deposit to my account FIRST and then debited the two items from my account SECOND and they then charged me $36 each for NSF/OD fees.

I called customer service first and was told that I was receiving the NSF/OD charges because at the time the two items hit my account (even though they had not posted to my account) there was not sufficient funds in my account to cover them. I was told the same thing when I went into the bank. However once I went into the bank, I was able to view their screen and it showed that they posted my deposit first and then posted the two items that had come in. If that is the case, why the fees? Fees should be access only on items that POST to your account that actually make your account OVERDRAWN. Anytime you look at the bank's screen of transactions and can't see why you are being access NSF/OD fees then something is wrong if you are still being charged fees. Both my online screen and the bank's internal screen show the same thing....my deposit was posted first and then the items were deducted. There would be no justification for any fees being accessed to my account. This is not the first time this has happened. This first happened the beginning of November and I raised plenty of sand and the fees were removed. I should not have to do that because there should not have been any fees in the first place.

There have been numerous times when my account has been overdrawn, which were my own fault and I should rightly be access NSF/OD fees and was. But what PNC is doing now should be both unethical and illegal!

I'm like most of you. I have lost hundreds of dollars to PNC overdraft charges. My husband has never had one overdraft charge until this new law came into affect on Aug. 15, 2010. I believe they are getting trickier about how they run there debits and checks so they can still squeeze some money out of there customers since they are probably losing so much money without being able to charge all these overdraft fees.

Anyways, my real complaint is that my husband use to have National City. He also had overdraft proctection of $1000.00 from the back to help him with anything he overdrafted for. They charged him $3.00 for this service everymonth, and he was able to pay it back at his descretion. Well, once PNC took over they turned his overdraft protection into a "line of credit" and tacked on a 24.79% variable interest rate, a monthly payment, and still makes him pay the $3.00 a month to use a line of credit. This doesn't sound right to me. Why are they able to ad an interest rate that he never signed up for? I plan to look over his paper work when I find it, but does anyone know what we can do or if this sounds legal to you???

As you all well know by now; PNC Bank has little "Care" for their customers. They are obviously driven by making as much money as they can via NSF fees by TRICKING / MISINFORMING customers and HIDING behind their little policies. This is my issue with them...
On Friday the 20th of August I PERSONALLY HANDED my landlord a check for rent at 9:AM (Note the HANDED part). Our rent is for $725. I had approximately $225 in then bank. My wife and I had cashed a check for $590 at a check cashing place so that we would have the cash ON HAND to deposit in PNC on Saturday morning. Obviously, adding $225 and $590 gives you $815. Everyone has ALWAYS known that CASH deposited in the bank is available on the same day. So we get to the bank on Saturday at 9:AM, and we were the first in line to deposit our $590 CASH in our account. I request a balance slip to make sure that we have $815 in the account so that the rent check would clear. We get the slip back and it shows us in the NEGATIVE by $510 odd dollars. We had NO ITEMS pending or waiting to clear. So we asked the teller what was up and why we were overdrawn. The teller tells us (and I quote), "...sorry Sir, your check #1070 for (Landlord's name) cleared at MIDNIGHT Friday night."
My mouth hit the floor because NEVER EVER in my adult banking life has a PAPER check cleared on the SAME day as I have written it! So I went over and waited for the branch manager to voice my distaste that there is never any consistency with PNC Bank and how it is impossible to manage your finances with PNC trying to beat the customers deposits. I asked him to explain the situation once more and he says the exact same thing as the teller told me about the check clearing the SAME day and how he already has a "Check Image" back which is supposed to prove to me that the check has indeed cleared. This D-Bag then tells me that my deposit of $590 CASH is actually scheduled to post to my account on Monday which is the next business day due to the fact that Saturday is not a "Business Day" in the banking world. So we tell the manager that if Saturday is not a business day, how can a check clear at Midnight and be considered still Friday?!?!?! EVERYONE in this world knows that MIDNIGHT is TECHNICALLY the next day! So if this guy says that my check cleared on Friday @ MIDNIGHT, then what really needs to be said is that it cleared @ MIDNIGHT on SATURDAY, the 21st! He gives us some BS excuse, all the while quoting TERMS and POLICIES of PNC Bank, and making sure he tries to stay hidden behind the red tape. My wife and I say to ourselves, whatever, give them their fees and whatever happens we paid off the $510 with our $590 deposit. Our balance as of Saturday morning @ 9:AM was $79 and some change. We were pissed that the check cleared the same day but what can two little piss ants do against PNC Bank?! We called the PNC number on our cards to see if these was indeed the case. The lady CONFIRMED what the two branch employees were saying about SAME DAY clearing can happen on paper checks.
Low and behold, Monday the 23rd of August rolls around and I get an email saying that my balance is now $689 and some change! You can believe that I flipped out! I called PNC Bank to check out what had happened. They Flippin' REVERESED the check to my landlord due to NSF! The lady on the toll free line tells me that the check did not in fact clear but that it was pending! So if you're keeping count, that's THREE PNC employees saying that the check cleared on FRIDAY (should be Sat.) at MIDNIGHT and now this one PNC employee says that the check was in fact pending on Friday and was reveresed on Monday. We asked for a manager on the phone and the manager swore up and down that the check was pending and that MONDAY the 23rd was really when the check should have been dealt with; just as the wife and I had thought originally when we wrote the rent check on Friday. We figured that it would be cleared or post on Monday, not the same day. So we said to this manager, "...what about our $590 deposit that we posted on Saturday? If you are sending the check back because today is the REAL business day that it was supposed to be dealt with, then what about posting our $590 deposit to our account so that we have enough money to cover the check and you won't have to send the check back?" The manager then tells me, "Sorry Sir, the deposit was posted to your account at 4:PM and the check was looked at/posted/dealt with (whatever) at 2:PM!!! These bastards played the time game by two hours just to make fees off of us!!!! We are sickened by PNC Bank! What kind of bank plays the two hour rule and then turns around and advertises, "...we are here for YOU, the customer!" We didn't choose PNC Bank they were forced upon us when they bought out National City, who BTW, we NEVER had to play these sort of games with our HARD EARNED money!
To conclude this nightmare, we went into another PNC Bank branch on Tuesday the 24th to withdrawl the rest of our money (once they got all of their NSF fees and Returned Check fees) to pay our rent. As we were there the teller read the notes on the account and asked us what had happened. We ran through the entire story and once finished her and ANOTHER of the branch employees who was listening BOTH said the same thing about our deposit of $590 and how it SHOULD have been cleared the same day, Saturday. This little ol' lady who was the manager at this branch and who unseen to me, was listening interupts these two employees and says, "Cash sometimes does NOT post on the same day if the account is in overdrawn status." Note the "Sometimes" part of what she said. How is it that a bank gets to decide what to do with their consumers MONEY, NOT THEIRS! Why are they allowed to play God in order to make profit?!?!?
All-in-all, this nightmare has more details that ties PNC Bank back to "Unethical Business Practices" in order to boost their stockholders profit margins. THEY NEED TO BE DEALT WITH on the GOVERNMENT LEVEL or at the very least the consumer level!

when national city was taken over by PNC the overdraft polcy/procedure changed also. Without my knowledge. As with others my debits were constructed by the bank and debited from my account from greatest to least. At first I did not think anything of it and paid the fees. Then on the 4th of july weeeknd I realized tha the largew debit I did on the 4th was withdrawn from my account before transactions I made on the 3rd causing my account to be overdraft multiplr time. Furthermore such transactions are not accurately displayed when you check your account online. the itmes will show in the pending column in the order you made the debits but when they finally post to your account the go from greatest to least. making more profit for the bank and more overdraft fees for me.

Case Details:
I've been banking with PNC for a couple of years. I've had several problems with them but recently it has been about overdraft fees. My last run in with them resulted in me having the fees removed from my account. This was after hours and days of going back and forth with customer service representatives. It was one of the most exhausting things that I ever had to go through.

This time, however, resulted in nothing but more aggravation. I was alerted by email that my wireless bill was going to be pulled from my bank account on 7/30/2010. I noticed that my phone bill was about ten dollars more that what I had in my account. So I quickly proceeded to transfer fifteen dollars from an external account to avoid getting an overdraft fee. This was on a Friday so I knew that it would take a few days to post. I assumed that since I was alerted to the withdrawal on Friday that it would also take a few business days to post. I left the account alone for an entire week because I knew that there would only be five dollars in there.

Today I decided to check and make sure that everything had posted the way it should have. I felt I had to be sure with PNC because of the bad reputation that they have for wrongfully charging overdraft fees. I open my account to see that I am fifty one dollars negative. I immediately called customer service to have my account closed. I had had enough of this with PNC. The person I talked to informed me that I could not close my account because it was in the negative and that the only way that I could close it was if I paid this overdraft fee that, I felt, should never have happened.

I asked to speak to someone else. The man that I spoke with was not helpful at all. He told me the same thing as the woman before. The only difference was that he let me know that he was aware as to why I made the transfer. He said that the reason for my transfer wasn't in dispute but that it took three business days to do the transfer. And because of this there was an overdraft fee charged two days before my transfer went through. I did the transfer the same exact day that I was alerted the wireless bill would come out.

This man then proceeded to tell me that I could not have the fees removed from my account because I had previously had overdraft fees removed. And that the only way that I could close my account would be by going to a branch and being charged another thirty dollars on top of the fifty one that I have already been charged. Also, my account would be charged seven dollars everyday until this fee was paid. I have no idea how this man could openly tell me that the reason for my external transfer was known and understood, yet still charge me an overdraft fee. Where is the fairness here? He kept telling me that it was because I didn't have the money in my account. And I didn't understand why he would keep repeating this after stating that he understood the reason behind the transfer. He said that I was being ignorant when I told him I didn't believe he couldn't close my account. I felt that he was rude and kept talking over me and refusing to do the service I was asking for. So instead of closing my account with a negative of fifty one dollars, I'll have to wait an entire month of daily seven dollar charges to the account before it is closed and sent to collections. I will not be able to open a bank account so long as I have this on my credit.

went in to close my account...they told me that a debit was charged to my account that day for $12.95 which overdrew me $12.39. They told me this was pending and "no" there were no NSF chrgs applied yet so I made a deposit for this amount and proceeded to close my account....they told me I'd have to wait to make sure no further debits were coming in....I reassured them no further chrgs would be coming in but they still wouldn't let me close my account......next day they chrgd me 3 $36 nsf chrges totalling $108 for this one $12.39 debit......went in a second time to close account and now was told due to a negative balance they couldn't close my account. They gave me a phone number to call which I did 2 days later and was told the same....balance owing now is $172.00. They told me that I would be charged $7/day for 30 days then my account would be automatically close. ls this legal???

I had opened my account about in about Oct. 09 never had i had a issue with my account receiving overdraft fees on pending items. When it converted into pnc not once before then did i receive a change of police on how the new system would work or how my credit pending would take place. Due to that i have received so many over draft fees that not only risk my business but my living well being due to the entrapment set for me as a pnc's consumer

In the past two days I have revived six overdraft fee's for items that were pending. I revived four overdraft fees in one day. Called customer service and they was very unhelpful. I spoke with the teller at the local branch who was very helpful and explained to me even though my account was in the positive I would receive two more overdraft fees after three o-clock. I was very upset with this information because I had a payroll check come through at 10:00 PM the previous day, and the pending items did no clear until later on that night or early morning. I called customer service once again. Customer service told me that I needed to stop overspending the account. I explained to the representative that I had banked with National City and I have never had an issue such as this, and only when National City converted to PNC have I had problems. I asked to speak with someone who could explain Terms and Conditions better, the representative would not allow me. I am very upset that they can "authorize" pending items going out of your account and not "authorize" items being credited to your account. If your account is not in the negative how can they justify overdraft fee's. Their logic for doing so is unjustifiable and hurting many of their customers. I am upset that an institution making billions in overdraft fees can be awarded money for "bailout" why dont we charge them fees for their overdrafts. PNC not only has unclear Terms and Conditions but horrible customer service.

I had two overdrafts on "pending" but they were never processed. Nonetheless, they put overdraft fees not two times but three because according to them I didn't have money for three different items. See they turn around what is paid by starting with the larger amount and so all of the small amounts are left for last. This way there are more items in overdraft and they charge an overdraft fee per item making lots of money for the Bank.

I have a few accounts with PNC. I wrote a check to my landlord for rent it was dated for the first of june. when he deposited it apr 26 (4 days early) the money wasnt there and i was negative about $400. so not to incur fees, I deposited 4 separate personal checks for $100- (to have the money immediately available) because i knew they would be covered with my direct deposit coming in overnight. Once PNC saw that I did this they hot carded not only the atm/debit card to the depositing account- they hot carded EVERY atm card linked to any account with my name on it (including my joint accounts) and hot carded my spouses cards. they took the money from the accounts i wrote the checks on to cover the rent but they assessed so many fees- I had over $700 in fees in 3 days. I wasn't able to get a single fee back and they put holds on all of my deposits and took all the money from my ledger balance so now the pending transactions and the checks i wrote for expenses bounced and i was assessed fees for them too! Its like I couldn't get out of the hole all due to my rent check being cashed before he was supposed to!

It's the same thing everyone else is complaining about and more. Countless NSF fees that were unjustified, and then we were talked into moving our business merchant service side over as well. What a nightmare! They had us send a letter to our current provider to end that agreeement, then never did anything with the pnc side to get the our customers credit cards processed! So, we were not getting funds for 3 weeks and it was all PNC's fault. Then we didn't have acess to our accounts online b/c of the merger they did with National City here in town. They said they spent millions of dollars to make sure everything would go smooth, I guess we all know where they got that money from......our NSF fees! We are being treated with such disrespect and are still not even sure if our business will make it through PNC's errors. Going through all that and then a teller from PNC turned the monitor around to show one of our vendors that we were bouncing checks all over town because of their error! Between the NSF fees, privacy issues and not taking responsibility for there actions, customer service is not there at PNC.

The answer is no. SO they lied!

I've applied for the above plan 3 separate times starting in May 2009. The bank waited so long in processing that I had to supply new financial info every 3 months. I wanted to sign up for the President's plan, but by the time the bank contacted my in regard to a loan modification, I became further and further behind in payments.
what they gave me was not a loan modification but the hooked me up with a private lender and my monthly payments went up and I'm paying 7 1/2% when mortgages are at their all time low. PNC has/is collecting millions of dollars from the President's plan and they are not using the money to help consumers.

I deposited a $200.00 check in the bank on a Saturday (6/12/2010) while they were open. They only allowed me to use $100.00 of it. I was not aware of this. I could have cashed the check and paid cash for all my transactions. Customer service says they start with the highest amount and go down for charges that was posted on that day, and then same thing the next day and so on. Well that is somewhat true, however when they did that I still came out ahead, so they went back and dedected my 6/15/10 postings first and then deducted my 6/14/10 transactions. The other $100.00 from that check was not added to my account on 6/15/10 untill all the nsf fees were charged. (Note: This does not show online. It shows a positive amount after 3 nsf fees were taken. I only fell into the negative balance after the 4th charge.)

I deposited $363.58 into the ATM at PNC. The ATM then said my transaction was invalid, spit the card out and a receipt saying the transaction failed. However, it kept my money. I have emailed, called, gone into the bank, chatted online, everything. Each person tells me something different. The rudest comment I received was from the teller who advised me to "deposit more money into the account" if I wanted to use it! This bank is horrible!

Formally National City banker and the weekend they changed over all account myself and other friends in same postion had our bank cards unusable without notice. Since then I have been over charged on NSF when I know the amounts are there. Yes they tend to update at a late hour and pay the largest debits or checks first so they can charge you more. Also After doing so will continue to try to resumit the checks at least for me at least 4 times in a row. Costing me quite abit. Then they closed my account without informing me not allowing me to use my debit or checks but continued to accept my direct deposits and not let me access it. I checked my account last evening at 6:00 and again was debited 2 more times leaving the balance 76.00 in the negative. Upon checking this am it has risen to over 250.00.When I did not use and money over the evening.

I too have recently had chrages taken out. I had made deposits enough to cover anything outstanding and was charged for pending transactions, even though when i look up my account online, it never shows i overdrafted anything. I think it's dirty that they don't count your deposits at all but are more than willing to charge fees even though they know the money is there. They post withdrawals right away, but don't give you full credit for your deposit. One check I deposited was evne a bank check, which shouldn't have been held!

When I opted out, I was 100% sure, that I totally opted out. The PNC Bank Representative didn't tell me anything about the $25 limit, or gave me a written confirmation with terms and conitions. This Cheaters took the bailout money, the American People's and the coming generations hard earned money and are cheating on the same people who have have helped them, and making unjust profit.

In 2009 I closed out an account and open a new one due to a separation. The checked on pending charges and deducted those charges and opend a new account. Several months later I pulled up my account online and the old account was open with a charge of 1900.00. I disputed the charge and never heard back. I called several times and explained that I would like to documentation regarding this charge and they would not provide it. Many more months go by and I become frustated and decided to open up an account at another bank. Much to my surprise I was denied an account due to PNC stating I owed then money and that I had "account aduse and overdrafts". PNC put a hold on my other account and took the money out causeing other check to bounce and on top of that charge me overdraft due to the fact that they debited my account and created this problem. I once again called and also went to the branch. The branch manager attempted to assist me with no success. I was told that due to the time they would not provide me the information I requested in the begining as to how they would justify charging me for this without my consent or authorization. They told me to go back to the vendor who charged the account and get reimbursed from them. (Yeah Right) No in the mean time I am dead in the water with a bank account and forced to work out a payment plan in order to pay a charge off that I did not authorize. I agreed to pay 100 per month. On Wednesday May 26, 2010 I made a deposit into my account. Due to the fact that I did not have the 100 in the account until the morning of May 26th they took out 100 and then later today which is Thursday May 27th put a hold on the rest of the money in my account. I called and the "nasty woman" who answered the phone said too bad nothing I can do you did not have the funds in there early enough and asked me to set up a new payment plan, leaving my account at 0. I explained to her that the bank did take the money out yesterday so why are they doing this. She only talked over me as if I stole money from her! This is insane and these people are on a power trip. In addition, I was told that this department reports to Chex Systems but they cannot take anything off unless I pay in full. Still how can they report me as "abusing accounts" when they opend a closed account and caused this problem to begin with. We should not be at the mercy and forced into these situations. Now I have utility bills that I paid and other items that are going to be returned and once again PNC and the payees will be charging me. This is an endless cycle and I am being the one abused.

I had over $112.00 dollars in my account. I made a deposit of a cashier check of $400.00 on Saturday. The branch is closed on Saturday, so I had to use the ATM. Only $100.00 was made available. So now I had 212.00 on Saturday. I had three outstanding transactions waiting to clear. Two transaction where made on 5-7-10 for $6.00 each and one made on 5-8-10 for 20.00. I also made a few purchases that weekend for motherís day gifts. I received three NSF for the three outstanding transactions. PNC cleared the $20.00 first which bought my account to -4.29. I don't understand how this one cleared first when it was made after the two 6.00 transactions. I checked my online banking balance on Monday evening and there was nothing showing me that I needed to be alarmed of these fees. As a matter of fact my online statement shows my check cleared on 5-10-10 and had a balance of $512. After all the transaction came out on 5-10-10, I still had $283.00 available balance. 5-11-10 is the posted date for the three NSF for $36.00 total of $108.00. I don't understand how when I'm looking at my online transactions and it is showing me an available balance. However, regardless of the balance PNC is showing me online. If PNC would have cleared the two $6.00 transactions as they should of. I would have had $3.00 left in my account and only would have acquired one fee instead of three for the $20.00 transaction. I called PNC to inquire and they told me it was my fault for depositing my check in the ATM. If a deposit is made in the ATM, they hold it for one day before it is cleared. Even if its cash or cashiers check this is the same as cash is deposit. I was told if I would of came into the branch and made a teller deposit Monday morning my check would of cleared instantly and all funds available. PNC is running a scam and this has to be illegal somehow.

PNC "lost" a $4000 deposit from one of my businesses. If I hadn't had my receipt for the deposit, they said it never would have been found or credited to my account. They claim that insurance checks that came to my business "bounced". Many of the same things listed above with the NOF and overdraft charges. Then to top it off, they lost $20,000 of my IRS payments... they are still looking... The IRS is going to assist now. Now I am unable to see any of my account balances on one of my business accounts, they claim they someone working on it for the past 3 weeks. The excessive overdraft fees, the rearranging of transactions, charging us fees for pending transactions that they have not actually paid and now with taking money out of the account w/o warning is something I can not live with. We have lost over $1000 in the last 3 weeks plus more from earlier this year(Not to mention how much we lost in late fees etc for other bills we couldnt pay). Plus, when we called the other day to ask about opting out of the overdraft program. we were told we could not until the account was back in the positive (why can't we opt out so no further charges will be assessed?) OR we could wait 3 months until all accounts were opted out.
They have poor customer service that will NOT let you speak to a supervisor when you call and you can never get the same answer twice and any answer you get is confusing. I am finally closing my account but due to negative amounts & direct deposits & pending transactions it has been a difficult process. I will find someone who will help me.

Most recent I had a charge made to my debit card by columbia house ( i did not authorize it; they had my card on file from a previous transaction, and months later they decided to charge my card for an auto ship selection. And i mean months later). After speaking to columbia house about it I called PNC. They started an investigation on my account for the charge. So the charge of 27. 50 and all overdraft fees applied were temporarily credited. They found the claim unsubstatiated and then reversed the charges.
So i put the money needed into the account after the charges were reversed. I was under by 43.50 from the claim so i put 60 dollars in. In the end I had 24.00 in my account there.
But because i didn't have the money in before they reveresed the transaction and it put me under they gave me another over draft fee.
By the time i recieved the letter about the fees i didn't have time to call them (thursday). Friday I didn't have the time. So i called them this morning.
They took off the second overdraft fee but insist that they have to leave the continuous overdraft fees on since i didn't call them on friday to handle this, plus i'll incur two more for sat and sun before i can get to them on monday to put money in and attempt to close this account.

time line
march called in dispute - fees temporarily credited.
april 25 recived letter about unsubstantiated claim. fees being recharged in 5 days
april 30th fees recharged putting account under by 43.50
may 1st - i deposited money leaving an availble balance of 24 dollars
may 3rd- overdraft fee from recharge of fees
may 5th,6th,7th recieved continuous overdraft fees
may8th called about charges. she reveresed the overdraft fee but left the continuous charges (expected to gather more over the weekend)

i was told if i had called on friday she would have been about the do more, but because i waited an extra day and its the weekend the 'rules' are this way.

this is the newest problem... i have had several since the merger between PNC and bank of Lancaster County...

I got $302 in bank charges, I have printouts to show on two of the fees my account never even went negative! I also have printouts to show where they deposit high to low to get the most of the fees and I was with National City before PNC took over and although we was promised everything would be the same (National City didn't practice high to low) and I didnt get any overdrafts with National City but PNC has been financially raping me!

I was a loyal customer of National City then PNC took, over although everything was promised to be the same as National City it's clearly not, one overdraft set off a snowball effect PNC is charging me for stuff that is pending and even if I make a deposit the day before it doesn't matter because because they do sneaky banking in the middle of the night to cash in on overdraft fees even though it says my balance is to the good the day before!

Case Details:
On April 11th 2010 I checked my bank account online and I showed that 2 overdraft fees hit my account in the amount of $36.00 each on April 9th. Upon further review i noticed that i had $44.04 in my account prior to the first fee being charged, once it was charged, I had a balance of $8.04, then another $36 fee, bringing my balance to - 27.95, then I had a charge (which I actually made a purchase) for $13.99, this took my balance to - $41.95. I then had another charge where I actually bought something for $4.13, this took me down to a balance of -$46.08. I also had a charge that was pending, or on hold as the bank told me, which was $37.45. This was the charge that made my account get the overdraft fee according to the bank. When I asked the band to tell me what it meant by being on hold, the advised me that the merchant has not yet recieved the money. So, i confirmed with the bank that i was charged an overdraft fee for something that hasn't even been paid to the merchant yet, they said YES. So technically, if it hasn't been paid to the "merchant" then it should still be in my account. The customer service rep I spoke with allowed me to speak to her supervisor after she advised me that she would not be able to credit the $72.00 in overdraft fees back to me. When I spoke to Nick, the supervisor, he kept contradicting himself and at one point I asked him If I could place him on hold and he said "really?" (questioning me putting him on hold for a second). Later in the conversation I asked him If I could ask him a question and he said "NO". He also refused to credit back my account the $72.00. I waisted my time and am now very worried about my money, dont trust the bank, and have a really bad headache over it. Words cannot explain how frustrated I am.

I have had 12 over draft fees in one day, all purchases made over the spread of 3 days. But they still managed to clear in order from the highest to lowest causing the maximum number of fees. Recently I had a direct deposit coming through at midnight, so at about 11:50 PM I went online to check my account to find that I was still in the positive and no pending purchases. After I went to bed and woke up, I had two overdraft fees and two returned checks and a direct depsoit, one for $16.83, one for $80 and a deposit for $439.52 the order they cleared was, -$80, -$16.83, +$439.52. Reversing both checks causing me another fee from walmart. There was enough money for the $16.83 and if your going to return my $80 check then why return the $16.83? I am so angry with this bank.

I have incurred several hundred dollars worth of overdraft fees. Checks processed from large to small. Also, on online banking it will show a check as posted on one day but with a negative balance. The next day after 5:00 they return the check. You cannot rely on online banking to see if an item has really posted. You have to wait 2 days to see if it stays posted or is returned. Not good. When you call the 800 # they cannot tell you whether a posted item will be returned. I have never seen items that are in posted status be returned two days later. These are posted as paid, not pending then removed the following day, but it is not reflected until the day after that along with the fees. I have deposited what I thought I needed but the charges hit after that so the charges may overdraft me the next day. It is a nightmare>

PNC has soaked me for thousands of dollars over the few years I have banked with them and the most recent and final straw was today. I had several items in pending that hit at different times and then one big one that i accidentally put on my bank card instead of my credit card. Even though it was definitely the last item that hit, they paid the big item first so all the other pending items hit and generated fees. They did this even when the big item was still pending!!! I have opted out of the "overdraft protection" mechanism that causes this by paying for things when no money is in the account. I have ASKED to be rejected at the food store counter etc. if there was no money in the account. I would rather endure that embarrassment than going broke once a month this way! I now owe them over $200 for one item that did, in fact, overdraw.

On every deposit PNC will sandbag deposits for up to five days in the name of a rise in theft. This puts the average working person in a finacial bind. PNC will not cash you check and when you deposit it they hold on to it as I mention for up to five days. This keeps people from buying groceries and paying bills. I just wonder is nobody taking notice that the banks are now thriving in terms of record profits, but yet new loans are not being made to the american people. Its because banks changed thier rules to target to working class people in order to increase profits. The american people and congress needs to wake up and take notice. PNC was the only bank to have two years ago that was before the banks collapsed. When I owned my business and I walked into the bank to make a deposit the local branch manager Theresa Levinstone and Sales Consultant Donna Moore would fall all over themselves to come and speak to me, almost to the point that it was just SICK. After I sold my business and shut the account I could'nt get them to pick up the phone when I was traveling to explain to me why they were holding on to a $5200 deposit for five days. Whats more sick is Banks invite business owners with lots of money in the bank to public events many times a year spending lots of money on people who really don't need it. It

By manipulating the order of my debits and holding my deposits, even my direct deposits, PNC Bank is stealing NSF charges from me over and over again. This practice has just begun over the last 6 months or so because I have banked with PNC for years and never had these problems before! Today March 9, 2010 was the most recent incident.

Just like the others... PNC holds deposits and debits over the weekend, then applies the debits first even the deposits were made first. All the while showing the account with a possitive balance. Behind the scenes they tally up the NSF charges and post them unline the following day. The unaware consumer continues to make purchases based on the websites available balance creating more NSF fees.

Absolutely sick and tired of this bank and will be immediately closing our account with them. They have repeatedly rearranged our accounts debits/credits to achieve the maximum NSF fees they could possibly bleed out of us. Online banking NEVER reflects whats actually in there and what is pending or being charged, leading us numerous times to use our debit card with the impression there was still money in there when there actually wasnt. I have seen them hold my incoming deposits to whenever it was convienent for them to cause a couple overdrafts THEN deposit it. They have repeatedly held back pending items till 5 or 6 accumulated, then they rearranged the processing order to cause 3-4 NSF fees instead of in a a couple instances would have been NONE or ONE. I am sick and tired of this bank, i am 35 and this is the worst bank i have ever seen. This is the first time in my life where i have actually had to worry about NSF fees and this bank is bringing me to the point of wanting to do something that would just be unpleasant. I am closing our account with them and would like to forget ever dealing with this bank. STAY AWAY FROM PNC - bottom line!

We had an account with PNC bank for 3 years. We noticed Overdraft fee's for Pending transactions and recieved via US Mail Debit l;etters that state the account was overdrawn at this time and are assesed Overdraft Fee's. We look at the Online bank history and never show the account negative. Do we not have the same Banking Software the bank has? Why are they encouraging people to use Online banking?

Our latest was in July 2009 when my Direct deposit never posted to our account and we wrote a big check out for some furniture. The check was written on a Friday and was presented to the bank on Monday and Cleared Monday never showing a Pending status. My direct deposit payroll did not arrive until Tuesday and PNC bank reversed all Check Card purchases that were in Pending status from the Sunday and Saturday before the Monday they cleared the furniture check. The Bank stated that they Clear from Highest to Lowest and charged us not 1 Overdraft fee but 9. Now the Pending transactions were deducted from the balance on Saturday. If the money is on hold I cannot use it how can the bank use it? Next when questioned about the clearing process as they reversed transcation with dates prior to the checks date PNC bank stated the Dates do not matter to the Bank?

To go further we filed a complaint with the Pa Banking Commission and are awaiting a decision still. The Bank closed our account for Inactivity in a Negative balance as we are disputing the overdraft fee's still but, accepted Direct Deposits into the account to offset the overdraft fee's. When we contacted them on 2 occassions in regards to accepting Deposits into a closed account they stated they do not accept depsoits into closed acoount and have not with regards to our account. That is a lie and they do accept deposits into closed accounts. The Most recent our Tax Return which our accountant filed without our approval or signature and never changed the bank account information on. PNC Bnak is currently holding our $5000.00 minus there disputed Fee's for a 10 day period. I did not know Banks were allowed to accept Deposits into a Closed account let alone HOLD peoples money for any set period of time when you are not there customer. I call this stealing. The Bank calls it Procedures. The Local Police call it "Not there problem" and Bank procedures oversee Government Laws.

I thought checks had cleared and withdrew money at the atm. I was then hit with another round of 6 overdraft totalling approx $400.

I deposited an unemployment check on 2/1, which posted to my account on 2/2. That left my balance, according to online banking, at over 600$. I made purchases on 2/3 and 2/4, and was charged two NSF fees at 25$ a piece. I called and complained, and was told that there was a standard "hold" on the "available funds" anytime checks are deposited. The online banking shows that I had sufficient funds, the check was posted to my account a full day before the items were purchased. The money was in the account, yet they still refuse to take away the funds. At no point, any where on my entire statement, on paper or online, does it show I had a negative balance, or insufficient funds.

I am personally sick and tired of these banks stealing money. This is just another of the methods that PNC, and every other bank uses to steal our money.

In this situation, they placed an imaginary hold on my funds, so that they could charge me NSF fees.

Overdraft fees are the worse with this bank, you have no idea of your account status, they charge you overdraft fees for pending items that don't even show up on your account when you use internet banking, they take days to process check deposits, they hold smaller transactions back and take the larger transaction first, This bank actually is a grand rip off artist, and all we can do is pay them there money. They even charge you money to transfer from your savings to your checking account.. I the time I was with them I believe I had paid them well over $2000 in all of there fees that were not necessary.

I have had several issues with this bank, for instance I deposited my check on Saturday, on Tuesday I have overdraft fees since they stated that my check was not cleared from the other issuing bank?? I had to continuously cash my check at the local Meijer for $3 and deposit cash after receiving over $300 in overdraft fees because of this. Next one is the latest and greatest.. I had an unauthorized debit come out of my account in which they took the biggest to the smallest so instead of receiving one $36 fee I received $108 in overdraft fees. I refused to pay it this time. I filled the paper work out for them to investigate the transaction was unauthorized which took approximately 2 months to complete. Finally after receiving the letter stating that PNC has found that the transaction was unauthorized they gave me back the transaction amount and stated that they took off all related fee associated with that transaction. Well, that's not the case I still owe them $350 in overdraft fees, and continuous over draft fees. Try to contact them and no luck since its in the collections department, which means its ruining my credit as I sit an wait for them to get there act together. Now I have received a letter stating that if I pay only 75% of what is owed they will consider it taken care of.
These fees that I received was from the unauthorized transaction, in which I have a letter stating that all of the fees that were caused by that transaction were removed, so how can I still owe them?

I sent them copies of all my documentation to them with their letter.. the next step is Better Business Bureau, then an Attorney since they are killing my credit with everything they have put me through and their fees.

i too have experienced PNC will pay the greatest checks first to increase the chances of consumers having to pay insufficient fees. Also the online site does not accurately reflect what is actually available or pending. I am very unhappy with the custoimer service as well ; their seems to be some disconnect between the rules and regulations as they vary from rep to rep. Most recently i as told that a pnc credit card i use for overdraft protection did not have any "cash advances" available so although i had credit available to cove the charges i could not use it because it was not available as cash, another time i was told that the "system " did not recognize the creit was available. So in other ords ha i not recognize this i would have just been stuck with the OD FEES. The bottom line is this bank isusing tactics to steal from the less fortunate and it is not right . I coul give story after story about there practices and my horrible experience with them.

They have just charged my account for 4 OD fees when according to online banking my account never went to overdraft. They said that the deposit I made on a Friday before 3pm didn't post to my account until Wednesday, even though on online banking it posted on Tuesday. The guy had the nerve to tell me by law they have to show the deposit as being posted even though the full amount of the deposit was not available. So because of that it caused 4 OD even though my account online never shows negative transactions. Did you know that if they OD a check they charge you a NSF fee plus a check reversal fee, so $15 check actually cost me $93. They always post transactions from highest to lowest to cause more OD fees. They have even returned a check that was deposited on the same day as my direct deposit pay check went in. Did you ever notice that when you have pleanty of money in your account checks show in the "pending transaction" portion of online banking, but when there is potential for OD the check never shows in that area and is just listed in "posted transaction"? When I called CS about this they told me I should call in to see if I have checks that are being processed, if I have to do that every day where is the convience in online banking.

I have been charged over 10 overdraft fees for charges that posted on the day that I had money in the account but apparently they say I made the charges on a day when there was no money in the account. I use my debit card according to what the PNC virtual wallet tells me. I told the rep that being a bank, I the customer should be able to trust the bank thats holding my money. Within a few hours 2 more overdraft charges applied to my account, totaling 12. Nothing is adding up. Charges are taking days to verify, even though they are debits. Charges are verifying and not showing up. Their system shows them one thing, and I see another.

My complaint is like the first complaint. I had pending charges that never went through and I was charge a $36 fee on the potential of my account being over drafted. That fee caused my account to become over drafted and every subsequent draft on the same day even those for $1.06 were charged $36 fees. Had they paid all of the lower amount charges on my debt card first, which were actual charges, and not the pending amount $19 pending amount, there would have been 1 overdraft fee. That fee would have been for the pending amount of $19, which by the way did not go through. When I spoke to customer service they informed me that PNC has to set aside the money for all pending transaction and they always start with the the highest dollar amount because they feel that is the most important charge. It sounded like funny money dealings you would hear from a dishonest business person.

I closed my account with PNC and was assured nothing else would go through. They let transactions in anyway, and it overdrew my account. The branch manager who said she was handling let this go on and debits continue for over 30 days, so PNC finally closed my account, reported me to ChexSystems, stole the money from my sister's account, which overdrafted her (my mom was a cosigner on both of our accounts. They tried to take the money out of my mother's account first, but since there wasn't enough, they took it from my sister.) The branch manager who failed to handle my account said it was "unfair" that I was reported to ChexSystems, but there's nothing they can do and they won't take me off. I closed mty account because of the hundreds of dollars in overdrafts that stemmed from pending transactions, and all of which I received mixed feedback when trying to get an explanation. When I tried to get this resolved, I got disconnected, transferred, and hung up on.

PNC bank charged almost $400 in fees in less than a month because they say that a deposit didn't clear when it showed online that it did. This caused a snowball effect from one overdraft to turn into about ten when trying to clear it up they refunded two and then charged another the same day, all the manager had to do was say that it was still overdrawn and money would have been put in to make it right. The home office in Pittsburg lied and said that the funds would clear that day and no OD fees would be charged. When we told them we were recording their lies another person got on the phone all upset and asked if we were recording the call.

I had several charges going through on a specific day, including a direct deposit from payroll. If National City (PNC) had put everything through, I would have had $10.02 in my account at the end of the day. When I look at my statement, they put through all but two charges. Which left me with $39.30 in my account. They then charged me an overdraft fee of $34 which left me with $5.30 in my account and then another overdraft of $34, which left me with -$28.70 in my account. Then they put those last two charges, of $19.28 and $10 through. Without those two overdraft charges, the $39.30 that was in my account would have been enough to cover the $29.28 that still had to come out of my account.

Time and time again we have been victimized by National City and their banking practices. They have been charging us overdraft fees when the money is there. On one occasion, we were already overdrawn and they transferred $25 to savings, which then they were able to charge me an overdraft fee of $36. On top of that, they transferred the $25 to checking and charged me $15 for doing that. The next day i put my check into the bank account to cover pending items so i wouldn't be charged anymore overdraft fees. What do you know, they charged me $36 for the pending item even though the money was there to cover the charge. When i contacted them, they told me that the money i put in wouldn't post until the next business day so they had to charge the overdraft fee. That's funny because i was told by the bank that it doesn't matter what time you put your checks into the bank, they will post to the account on that day. I am so tired of getting charged all these overdraft fees and they don't want to do anything about it to help you out. Now i am going to close my account due to all of the unfair overdraft fee charges and unfair practices. Also, they said you will not be charged ATM fee's for using other banks ATM's that was a lie as well. I can provide all the documents necessary as well as email between me and National City proving these matters.

I have set up a separate savings account that is linked to my checking. PNC is supposed to transfer my saving into my checking to cover overdrafts if they occur. On the last day of Nov, I had multiple debits on my account that took the account negative. There was enough in my savings to cover the amounts, but they did not apply it until after three overdraft fees were generated. On top of it, they charged me $10 for the transfer. Their explanation was that it is done by computer and since it all happened on the same day, there was nothing they could do to fix it. I say it is self serving, abusive and fraudulent.

I have been a customer of PNC Bank for 20 years. My paychecks are deposited to my account regularly on the 1st and 15th of every month. My children's social security check as a result of their father's death are deposted the 4th Wednesday of every month. I am a good customer and in 20 years with them have overdrawn my account only a handful of times in the 20 years I have been with them. The handful of times have all been in the past few years since my husband's death. The fees, which stack up against small transactions (the most recent charges were 4 NSF fees of 36.00 on charges which in total did not even come to $36) are all a result in how the bank elects to process the transaction - largest to smallest. If the transactions had been processed as incurred the account would not even been overdrawn. In this most recent occurence, I recoginized almost immediately (within 12 hours) that I was overdrawn when I checked my balance. I immediately transfered what I could - which I was enough to cover the overdrawn amount and then some. Yet that was not good enough and later that same day PNC started chipping away at my balance with fees totaling $144 when all was done. When I complained I was told that by overdrawing the funds I was in essence "stealing" from the bank and therefore their policy is justified. It is they that are the thief. As a mother of two children trying to get ready for Christmas they have stolen what little I could afford to give my children through their greed and unethical practices.

PNC (national city bank) bank charges me with excessive fees continually. I have pending deposits to my account and I will still incur nsf fees, it makes no sense and also they order they process or choose what to pay or leave pending incurs more overdraft and nsf fees, when if they would pay what fund were available for vs the largest first, there would be one nsf fee vs 6, 7 or even 8. having nsf fees for $4 charges is infuriating! This has caused me serious anxiety!

I cannot even list all the overdraft charges that have come in often with deposits pending . Also, they have set up their bill pay unlike other banks so that the bill is sent not on the day you set it go out but whenever earlier than that they decide is how long it will take for the bill to arrive. My other bank is citibank. bill pay is not sent out if the money is not in the account and I receive a notification. When the bill is sent the money is deducted from the account. With PNC they send the check whether there is money in the account and on whatever date they choose so when I have seen a check go out too early I have called to protest that it is before when I set it to be sent and they say there is nothing they can do because that is when they decided it should go out?? Then of course the check will come in and bounce because it went out before the tenants deposited their check and then there are charges for that then if I don't realize it has happened i am charged on top of 36 dollars per and additional 21 dollars the combination of which causes additional deficiencies causing additional charges and no matter what we have asked. It has gone on and on and in a long distance banking situation we have been left over and over with banking od charges that keep dominoing in to more charges. In addition we have struggled financially this year and the loss of thousands of dollars was a nightmare hardship.
Sincerely,

On multiple occasions PNC has reorderded the transactions posted to my account, reordering to greatest to least to maximize their overdrafts. They have used pending transactions to reduce my funds, in order to overdraft posted transactions. I have consecutive statements reflecting this practice. In turn the pending transaction were then charged and overdraft fee for the overdraft following the posted transactions. Basically the pending charges were used to create the overdraft, then charged afterwards to maximize it. Most recently I had canceled/not authorized a transaction. They used the pending transaction again, reordering it in the same practice, to cause 4 overdraft fees. However, since I canceled the transaction, it NEVER posted, only pended... the company I had ordered with had pulled the fees back prior to posting, yet the overdraft fees were still taken out of my account.

I don't even know where to start. PNC bank has been recently charging fees for "pending" charges that have not even occured yet. They also practice paying checks from high to low in order to generate more NSF fee income. They also post debits until 10 pm but not deposits. They also have stopped posting deposits after 3:00 although they post debits until 10:00. If you do not get to the bank and have your deposit posted by 3:00, it think it is 2:00 now actually, then it is not counted at all until the next day. If it is a check, then they hold it for one business day and out of state for 2 business days. You cannot just get money or cash your check anymore. So if I deposit my paycheck, which is out of state, after 3:00 on my payday, it is not available until 2 and a half days later. If I happen to deposit on a Thursday at 4:00, the funds will not be available until Tuesday of the following week because of the weekend. How are we supposed to get paid, pay our bills when we get paid when these big banks that are supposed to be insured keep our money. They keep changing their times of posting in order to make more money. It is SO obvious. If you look at my bank statement it will show that I have covered my expenses in a timely manner. They make it very hard to prove because their online banking which they say is real time banking is not. It may say one thing but you really won't know what happened until after 10pm that night, although your deposits don't get posted in the same manner. I can see that this is a new issue because of the complaints that are listed here are dated very recently. Help!

I have been debited for many unfair NSF fees on "pending" charges for Visa or Mac/Visa charges that have not even come out of my account yet. My balance rarely ever shows negative yet they charge NSF fees. They also do not show the "pending" charge online until the close of the business day when it is too late to go to a branch or ATM and deposit the amount. Yet I have been told recently that the time for PNC to process debits is now 10 pm but that doesn't include deposits. It is almost too hard to explain. They have it set up so that you cannot get ahead of the charges once they are rolling. Again, though, if you look at your account online it says one thing but by the next day it is completely different. I have been charged fees in 2 weeks that add up to 2 weeks salary for me. I am a single mom on a very limited income and this is killing me. I know that I watch my money very closely and there are those of us who do live paycheck to paycheck. This is stealing from the poor people not the ones who have money! The big banks are receiving money to bail them out while making millions from the majority of people who dont have a dime to spare. I agree there have been times where I decide it is ok to pay a fee and overdraft my account in order to make a bill payment on time. That should be for me to decide. I cannot keep ahead of these fees once they start. There is just too much here to explain right now. I want to file a law suit immediately, whatever it takes to get these banks back to the banking practices we deserve. It is wrong! These recents transactions have been so blatent of their trickery and something has to be done about it.

I have a number of issues with PNC -- here are a few:

1) I paid a credit card balance online and indicated the amount should be deducted from my savings account. Instead, it was applied to my checking account which triggered $180 in NSF fees. When I called PNC they lectured me on not knowing my saving account number was different from my checking account number and told me they don't pay any attention to the box that says savings or checking.

2) This week, for the first time I noticed a $20 fee applied to my checking. I called to ask what it was for and they told me I would be charged $10 a month for every month I didn't have a $2,000 balance. I told them I've had the account for six years and almost never have a $2,000 balance in my checking account . This is the first time I was ever charged a fee. They told me I've been "lucky" and agreed to reverse the fee "this one time."

3) I opened a student account for my niece several years ago. A week or so ago, I noticed she was overdrawn by $40 or so, so I immediately transferred that amount into her account. Several days later, I got a call from PNC telling me her account is seriously overdrawn. I checked and after I had made the deposit, they assessed her another $36 NSF fee, then two days later a $20 fee for being overdrawn for more than 5 days and another $7 for being overdrawn for a 6th day. When I called them, they said that although i had deposited enough to cover the negative balance -- because it was on a week-end, it still counts as a negative day since it was negative part of the day.

4) And then there was the time I deposited my paycheck Friday night and went grocery shopping Saturday morning. The debit for my groceries went in but the check was "held" -- as is their policy -- and I ended up with over a hundred dollars in overdraft fees.

My accounts are all closed with PNC at this point. I let it go on way too long because of my niece's student account and the difficulty of changing that while she lives in another town -- but PNC is the worst!

I have a print out of my account from 11-06-09, showing no negative balances at all. On 11-09-09 I get three $36.00 NSF fees. When I call to talk to PNC they tell me that on their screen technically my balance was negative because of pending charges. I check my account every day and on my screens I was never negative.

I have had this account for about 3-4 yrs now and Multiple times instead of them taking out payments when they occur they take them out from most expensive to the cheapest and then charge me Overdraft fee's because of it. I recently closed my account because i was tired of all the O.D. Fee's especially when they charge me 31.00 dollars OD fee when I was only over by a dollar and they money was put back in the same day but i was told since it already occurred i would have to pay the fee. Most Recently I was paying back the overdraft fee's from my previous account balance and without warning by a phone call or letter they debited my new account what i owed and over drafted this account and when i complained they said that they would refund the overdraft fee but just this once as a courtesy but there the one's that caused the fee. Not to mention That money i had in there was planned out already to pay to keep my electric on and because of them it almost got shut off and i was afraid to put any more money into my account. also my previous accout i only owed 186 dollars and they debited my new account for 215.00 when i asked the teller about this she told me that they take out more money then is actually needed then will send me a check back on what is not owed, which partially caused my account to become overdrawn. I barely make enough money to survive on let alone have money to keep giving them everytime they feel like hitting me with more overdraft fee's and costing me 100 dollars to 200 dollars here and there. I think Pnc should be accountable for what they do to people it's not right.

I had in my account (shows on my summary)15.59 cents then 1.05 is debited and the next item is an overdraft charge of 36.00 causing a -20.41, then comes to charges one for 9.00 and 7.48 and then 2 more overdraft charges . I asked how did you get the first overdraft fee when 1.05 subtracted from 15.59 doesn't cause a negative to charge an overdraft fee, she said thats because we already had on hold 9.00 and 7.48 and your balance at that time was 16.64 but then the 1.05 came in and made it negative. Then I ask well why did you charge me an over draft charge for the 2 items if you already ded. on hold. Well when we actually posted it and you had the overdraft because of the hold and 1.5 we now were posting this against a negative balance. I told her well I wouldn't have the negative balance from the 1.05 if you wouldn't have had the hold of the 2 items and vise versa if you already deducted how can you deduct again? Thats not how we process at the end of the day. It makes absolutely no sense, and the rep kept tellilng me , I know how one can get confused on this explanation, I told her because its a scam, its a lie and your confused yourself, if you listened to her explaing it it made no sense.
