ITT-Technical Institute Students Unaware That Degrees Do Not Transfer

Case Summary:
Students who sign up for an education are never made aware of the fact that the degrees they earn will not transfer to a public university. I personally did not find out until one week before graduation when I started looking at state universities to further my education. At the time of recruitment, the recruitment counselor discusses how you can start off with a degree at ITT-Tech and follow up in graduate school. They never tell you that you can only participate in a graduate school that excepts national accreditation. In order for students to get a Masters or PhD they have to attend another private, for profit school. My degree at ITT-Tech cost me $80,000.00. I cannot afford to go somewhere else just as expensive. I do not believe that any student can.

Case Detail:
ITT-Technical Institute is an expensive school that fills their pockets on the debts of unsuspecting students and hides the fact that their credits and degrees will not transfer in order to trap students into paying for an education that they cannot afford. They also boast about a "more hands-on" education. It was my experience with this school that there was little to no hands on education. I attended for a BS in Criminal Justice and only once utilized the few tools we had for our program. Many classes were extended for lab time which was almost never utilized. By the time I realized what was going on I had invested too much time and money to pull back. I was ITT-Technical Institute to be held responsible for their actions and for students to be aware of what they are signing up for before they become the next victim.

I have multiple emails from that show my program chair said credits would transfer then campus director said they would not.
I also was told after attending for 3 months that prior schools credits that were accepted by one campus were denied when that campus was closed at the end of the term and wanted me to retake all prior courses, including those I took at their sister campus. It was retaliation for whistle blowing on their FA dept signing our FA electronically for the student. I told them and when no action was taken, told the corporate office. I have an email that shows this was a consideration in the transcript conversation.
I was advised by several education directors that filing suit would be an appropriate course. I understand ACICS does not act as K Muldany, former CEO is on their board.
I would like to find a class action or attorney who would be willing to work for a portion of winnings

Where to start. I have so many things that have happened to me in the time I was there . First I never knew anything about signing gap coverage in a private loan until my wife and I tried to buy a home and they said that was on my credit, I have called all campus's and left numerous of messages to the financial people and deans, NO calls back, They rushed me threw the process so fast by having me just hit accept without me fully understanding what was going on, they led me to believe differently, finally wen't there in person and had a run around and were very rude, the campus I signed my loans at closed and I was unable to go to the other due to work schedule and I asked them that at the start and they said I would only report to that school, now they only offer what I went for (criminal justice) online and closed all the campus's down from have a actual class. So when I couldn't go due to my schedule and them just shutting the campus down to transfer credits to another school was not an option when they told me they were a credited by the guidelines of state, and they also dropped the bachelor program which means for me to get it latero n was not an option anymore because non transferable credits.

I was pretty much FORCED to get these crazy student loan amounts to continue my "education" for an associates degree/credits in drafting and design that I have found out is now non transferable even though I asked if these credits/degree was transferable while attending and I was told that everything WAS transferable. I had looked into attending another school because I was fed up ITT's BS curriculum, with classes that had NOTHING to do with drafting and design, yet I was FORCED to take them and pay for them and the teachers lack of teaching us anything.. we even had a teacher quit after 3/4' of a class was over and had numerous teachers for the remainder of the class. I am expected to start paying back $44k in student loans which is over a $400 a month payment, REDICULOUS! I was diagnosed with stage 2b Hodgkin's lymphoma 2yrs ago, and I'm a single parent so these student loan payments are NOT going to go over well, and not sure how I will be able to start paying them come July of 2014. I graduated from ITT in Aug of 2009 and have had to defer student loan payments, and can not defer them any longer. There HAS to be something that can be done!

In 2003, 2005 I seen commercials for itt promising hands on training and hope for the future. Little did I know that there idea of hands on was only an hour of that the rest was 2 hour lectures. When I went to itt to inquire about there school they told me they where hands on just like the commercial said and bairly any lecture and it focused on what I wanted to learn. Was also told I would have help finding a job after and that 40-60 grand a year. They then helped me by applying and taking out loans several loans all with different amounts and percentage rates. When I started that was not the case I found that I had to take 2 hour lectures and classes I had no clue I had to take. I was needless to say very disappointed but I still tried and got no where because of these classes. Thanks to itt I have a ton of debt and nothing to show for it.

I had graduated ITT in 2008. At the time of sign up I was 18 and fresh out of high school. At this time I was really into developing web sites. I saw that ITT was offering a degree program for just that. By the time I was 1 course away from getting my degree there was only 1 other student graduating with me (started with 10+). Come to find out that once I had graduated they canceled the degree program and changed it to graphic design. The material I was taught was outdated and most of it I knew before even going in. Needless to say I never found a job after years of searching for something in my field. My loans were huge plus everything I paid out of pocket to the school. I came from a poor family and was the oldest of 3 siblings. I was the only one to go to college because after I got out i could not afford to repay my loans and my parents had to take on some of the monthly payments. I am now 27 and working at a great company but these monthly payments are doing me no good and Im only paying interest. This is the worst decision I have ever made in my life by far. Now I am going to go back to school and have to start all over. Thank god my company is paying my way. Ill never get out of this loan :/

I obtained a bachelor's degree from ITT Tech in 2013. I learned fairly quickly that this degree meant very little to employers. I was promised by ITT during recruitment that my credits would transfer and that they would help me get a job in line with my degree.
After graduation I tried to contact local universities, and found that none would accept my earned credits. I then started calling ITT for help in getting a job in the PM Field. They have never offered me a job lead. No one wants an ITT graduate. After a year of going back and forth with their "job placement" I stopped contacting them.
I stayed in my current job with student loans amounting to $64,000.00 dollars; payments are $700.00 a month, which I cannot afford to pay. I graduated in 2013 with 3.5 GPA.
I learned as much as I could from the worthless "hands on" learning they offered. For my capstone project I turned in the required pages of a project plan assignment, which looked as if a third grader would of have created, and I was given an A for this work.
I have no hope of getting a job in the PM Field with the degree I "earned" from ITT. I did the required coursework and tried my hardest to learn what I could from this puppy mill of a school.
ITT is just pushing as many students as they can deceive through their pathetic courses as fast as they can, with teachers that have little to no understanding of the course that they are teaching. My trigonometry teacher made it clear that he did not know much about trig, and was reluctantly placed in that position by the Dean.
I believe ITT owes me the money they have stolen from me. All I want is my student loans taken care of. I attended the classes and agreed to pay a fee for them. They did not create classes that in return could teach me how to be a PM professional.

I attended ITT Tech in Pinellas Park, FL. I am thankful I did not decide to continue with my Bachelors, but I did graduate with an A.S. in CNS, but it is nothing but a $40,000 piece of paper. ITT boasted all the hands on training I would get and they said the University of my Choice would pick and choose the credits they will take when I want to go for Bachelors. This is a complete lie. I went for an AS in Computer Networking and I never so much as laid a pinky finger on networking equipment, labs where a joke, most teachers had no clue... I did not get any hands on experience at all so I am virtually unemployable in the industry. I had to start over from scratch at a community college and I will run out of student loan money before I come close to finishing my Bachelors. I do not understand how ITT can get away with charging me $40,000 for a worthless education and lie to my face about credits transferring.

I attended IT Tech for almost 3 years due to a short break. During that time they were "restructuring" their courses. They never provided me with a total cost of schooling while I was there and even upon graduation. They scam sallie Mae, the student and their employees into believing that they are getting a more advanced education that allows the to transfer to another university later. To this day I can't find anyone that will accept my Associates Degree so that I can pursue my Bachelor's Degree. I was told from the get go that I could transfer and was even given a data sheet saying that I could transfer after graduation.

I signed up for a BS in Business Management. Luckily within the first week of class a friend of mine told me the horror stories of people who had attended ITT and were not able to transfer their credits to other universities. I investigated and decided to drop after having attended just one class session. I dropped on March 22, it is now April 4 and I found out they have not yet processed my drop. I have filed a complaint with the Attorney General's Office and with the Department of Education. These people are going to try to scam me out of my federal education funds before they drop me. I have since signed up at another institution and I cannot get my federal funding because ITT will not process my drop. I am very disappointed and angry that people like this get away with scamming people every day and nothing is being done.

On my initial meeting I asked question such as will I be able to transfer my credits to continue my education and what about the accreditation. I was told that the college was accredited and would be able to transfer to another college. During my schooling I had mentioned more than once that I was going to be pursuing a career in child psychology and it was very important that I was going to be able to transfer to another college once I completed my bachelors degree at ITT. I was continually told that the school is highly accredited and would be able to transfer my credits. Now I am stuck with a degree that I cannot use and can not transfer. I owe a ridiculous amount of money and no way to pay it back..

I've been saying this for years & nobody took me seriously...

This article says it all:
http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2011/news/economy/1107/gallery.job_skills_unemployed/5.html

I cannot go back to school & cannot clear these loans in time to retire from somewhere.
Sallie doesn't care.
No University will take my credits currently.
No company will take my skills & degree seriously.
Current loan amount: $45,286.73... and counting..
Somebody please listen; we're running out of 9lives.
Universities told me to start over: Oakland University
Sienna Heights folded.
No bachelors, still.
I don't worry though - the United States taught me that they NEVER pay their bills, cheat whomever they please including us, and Bankruptcy is oookaaay!
I say to them this thing for certain "When you neglect your small wounds, your problems go viral" and therefore, cannot be ignored.
-therefore-
to fix a Country, you start with the people responsible for building it; you and me, NOT with the moneytrail.

Also most of the students that i knew were previous criminals. This was not a school. It was a waste of money and time. ITT Tech should have to take some sort of responsibility for what they are doing.

Ok here's a good story for you all. I myself attended Itt-Technical Institute for an associate's degree in drafting and design. While attending i presumed that i would have a nice job waiting for me after graduation, little did i know that almost to graduation i still had no real leads towards a better career. I encountered the non-transferable credits, however while attending i slowly noticed the lack of course knowledge most instructors had, as well as the poor hands on experience i received. I also felt rushed in every class. But this is what bothered me, there was an incident where an instructor was trying to show another student how something was , she could not get it the way he was trying show her so i jumped in and showed her the way i perceived it and she understood. Not but a second later this instructor came over me, bent over and whispered this in my ear " there will be consequences and repercussions for your actions boy " after that i started failing his class while everyone else was passing. I then wrote a letter to the dean because of this incident. Turns out i was not the only student having problems with this instructor, students from his other classes were having the same problems. Now i am 45,000 in debt without a career in which i was promised. Very dissatisfied with this institution, and now i work for minimum wage with no hope outgetting this debt taken care of.: ( if anyone knows anything on how to get this taken care of, PLEASE HELP!!

I went to ITT Tech in March of 2006 once my GI Bill benefits from the VA kicked in and graduated in March of 2008. It cost $42,500 and I had to take out loans through Sallie Mae as a result of ITT misleading me on the fact that the GI Bill should have covered all of it. I asked The admissions rep if the credits will transfer to a university like CU or CSU and I was more than guaranteed they would. Upon completing the degree, I still had not found a job and unlike they had promised through their own contract, they did not even help with submitting my resume to any jobs I told them I was interested in. I continued My education in 2008 without being able to look deeper into ITT's accreditation at the time. I went for a BS in electronics and halfway through, I found out that the admissions reps had lied and that the national, regional, and collegiate accreditation they had mentioned obtaining were not real. I did lodge a complaint with the National Center of Higher Learning and immediately pulled out of all classes. I feel like an IDIOT for burning through my GI Bill and going as deep into debt as I have for something that isn't even worth the paper it's written on. If I had the money, I would take them to court for all I could get back from them. Their classes and curriculum were high school level at best. I hope nobody makes the same mistake, but sadly people will continue to go there as long as their doors remain open.

I attended ITT-Tech Austin for 2 yrs, While there they constantly flipped my classes from early morning to evening and vice versa completely against my work schedule causing me to miss many days of class. I was told the degree I started would transfer, it does not. I talked to many companies about a job in the field, they would not even accept that as a degree to be considered for the jobs. I now owe loans for classes I didn't even take, because I was flunked out before graduation due to schedule conflicts and teachers who not only were terrible at teaching did not put forth any effort to help students who were having problems with the content in the class. It basically went here is your book, here is your homework and tests that do not have anything to do with said book turn it in at the end of the 4 hrs/ next class. I have now been having issues going back to school because of this.

The ITT-Technical that I attended had not only told me that my credits where transferable but also the school had cancelled the BA program that i was seeking to attend after my associates. i was then offered another program that was not in the field of study but could be taken credit for the current program.
After i received my Associates in game design Visual Communications i then took the offered Project Management BA program from the school. However, i didn't pass the first quarter so they informed me that i had to take out a private loan in on top of the federal student loans that were still coming in. Unaware of what was going on at the time, i heard that private loans were needed if were uneligible to receive any of the federal student loans. May 14th 2012 was my last day of class and my federal loans were still coming in to the school on top of the private loans that they insisted for me to take in order to continue. Moreover i didn't pass the new program that they offered, but heard via e-mail that the school will be re-open the cancelled GAME DESIGN COURSE BA the current one that i received my Associates Degree in will be back in fall but held at different Itt campus far from me and my fellow classmates. I recently went to the Everett Campus and found out that they are not sure if they will launch the program and found out that my current campus might offer the course as well depending on who get's the most students. Overall, I am not only stuck with a Major debt, but so far the job offers that i received were on call game testers starting some $15 dollars an hour when i mam now making $21.11 an hour PT at my current job that's permanent and stuck with the intentions of going to a major but just found out that the credits aren't transferable after Itt told me they were back in 2010!!

When I began taking classes fall of 2008 I had high hopes of graduating with a BS in Criminal Justice. I spoke with a recruiter and I was told that I could transfer my credits when I obtained my degree. The past 3 years that I have attended this school I have only seen a handful of teachers qualified as instructors at ITT Technical Institute. I only see a handful of students who could possibly qualify as police officers, but I dont see anyone smart enough to be a police officer studying for their bachelors to get into an entry level position "of course, unless you are taught by qualified instructors that ensure you receive a good education" I dont like the fact that I am in this situation and I feel even worse for people in the same situation. Something needs to be done about this because it is unethical and immoral!!!!! Our future is at stake and education should be our top priority to lead us to a brighter and better tomorrow!!

I was a young man with a child when I had realized that 18 months of my life had been wasted. I could have used that time to persue a degree in nursing as I am doing now, and been a lot closer to a more financially stable life for my son.

I was told during the initial phone call, that I would have no issue at all using my degree at ITT to persue my bachelors at a university. I was deceived. During the admissions process, I even went as far as to question details in the admission details. I was told that the "non-ability" to transfer credit was specifically to other private schools. To this date, I have and outstanding student loan debt and am seeking to have ITT Tech pay for this debt and the time I have wasted at their place of business.

Their tactics and the pressure they had put on me were nothing short or predatory, and it has had an adverse affect on me to this date. Also, I am certain that upon an investigation (of that particular time), ITT would be found guilty of deceptive trade practices.

I was mislead by the counselors at ITT Tech to believe that the school was accredited and that my credits would transfer to any other school. It's true, ITT is accredited but only nationally. To me at that time, it meant just what I was lead to believe that once I graduated I could take my degree with me anywhere. Little did I know there are two different kinds of accreditation and I would NOT be able to take my degree with my anywhere UNLESS it was an ITT school. Had I had known this at the time I would not have signed my name on that dotted line. I paid $32k (and counting) for a worthless degree that doesn't hold up ANYWHERE but to other Nationally (FOR-PROFIT) accredited schools with HIGH tuition cost. I feel like a sucker. I looked the counselor straight in her face and asked her because I had backed out of the deal a few times. She told me yes, she told me anything to get her little commission off of me. I NEED A LAWYER. I can get names and dates EASY.

I recieved an associates degree with itt tech. . The school caused me to owe over 56000 dollars in loans but didn't teach me anything at the school. I begged over and over about having a teacher actually setting with me so i can learn what i have to learn they never did. i started in Va went to NC then came back to VA. While in NC i failed some classes i expressed to them i need help it was hard to have to work and come to school at the same time. i express to them i needed to be tutored ect. When i came back to va to finish i was informed that Nc didn't charge me one semester so some credit didn't go through and i had to basically pay double to finish but there was more money expected becuase it was so late when having to pay for the last semester so i cam out of pocket more then the next student had to... then wehn i started the classes back there i basically only had to come to class toget and A i really didn't have to learn anything i expressed that to mr panair that i wasn't lerning anything and i felt that was unfair to have to pay all this money and not learn anything.

When I started ITT tech I had no clue that the credits I attained were not going to transfer. I ended up getting mutiple loans including private loans that ballooned to over 10% interest in excess of over 50K for and AS degree. Only to find out that a State school or University would not honor the credits to tranfer so I could finish up a BS degree. I would have never attended this school or taken out ANY loans if I new I would not be able to transfer credit and that my education was worthless. I want to tread lightly when I say education too because I barely recieved one.The teaching staff was terrible. One class all we did was watch movies, the MATH classes were on-line with a book that had nothing to do with the tests. I had to use my wifes math books from San Diego State to help with my tests. I could go on and on about the terrible classes and teachers.I was never told that my private loans were adjustable, I did realize that I was getting private loans but had no clue that they were any different that the federal ones. No one explained anything to me. This school wasted my time and a ton of my money. They are taking food out of my families mouth.

HI I attended ITT Tech San Antonio back in 1998 - 2000. I was approached by ITT Tech reps back in my senior year in HS and said they will give me a 2,000 scholarship towards my first year. I eventually finish school but was never able to find a job in my field. I tried to transfer my credits to the University of Texas but they denied every single credit earn from ITT. ITT never told any of us, that were attending, that our credits will not transfer over to a college or university. In the end I am still paying off my student loan from ITT Tech which cost more than attending University of Texas San Antonio.

I signed up for ITT-Tech for computer programming. I decided I wanted to change my major and went to a Community College to see what I needed to do to transfer. I had my transcripts sent to the Community College and was told that NONE of the classes I took at ITT were transferable. I would have to start over from scratch which came out to a year of full time classes down the drain. ITT-TECH IS A RIP-OFF. THEY WILL TELL YOU ANYTHING JUST TO GET YOUR MONEY. Do not believe the commercials.

I enrolled when the school was Hi-Tech; however, two months after I started they changed the name to Anthem Career College.

I graduated this past February with Honors (3.9), although my 10 yr. old could have done the same. I have been in constant contact with the Career Service adviser who tells me she is responding to post made on Cragislist. This a joke and I am doing this on my own, I really did not need to spend 35,000 dollars for such services.

While enrolled at the campus I went through 3 Presidents and 2 deans along with 2 paralegal instructors. I did not get the education promised, they failed to tell me their classes where designed for students who needed a lot of hand holding. I have gained more education from Google then I ever did from the instruction material I was forced to buy.

Some of the teachers didn't even HAVE degree's there, my DC Electronics teacher couldn't solder! That's bull!

The teachers were uneducated, even I know more than most of them. I had to quit because I couldn't pass the class because the teachers couldn't offer proper help, my grades were plummeting and my patience was wearing thin.

I need help, I can't possibly pay off these loans and it's not easy to get a job that can support all my needs!

Credits will not transfer, education was completely worthless. I need a way out of this scam, I'm about to lose everything!

I have been going to ITT Tech for a year and everything they have promisted me about a good education was a lie. I was also told I could take a quarter off and would be ok. However now that I need the quarter off as I got a new job and need to travel a bit, they are not allowing me to, stating I need to enroll in the new program, which is not only more expensive, but the classes I took most will NOT transfer over, I already invested close to 20k and now they want me to invest another 40k for a degree. I went to college, I have a bachelor I only paid 28k. I will be damned if I pay 60k for an associates degree. I need assistance on going to a new school and getting my money back as I did not learn anything that applied to my career.

I have gone to ITT in Florida from 2007 - 2012. I graduate in March and this last semester I found out that the school is not Nationally accredited and that none of my stuff will transfer to another school.

The school barely helped me look for a job in my field and when they did send out job notices to our e-mails it was to jobs not related to my field of degree. Then they decided to pull out all the computers in the class rooms and make a single mega lab, which forced me to buy a computer just to do CAD work and my homework.

I am upset at ITT for liying to me and not telling me the truth about what hand I was going to be delt. I can't find a job in my career, jobs I tried to apply to said they need accredited degrees (which ITT is not) and that I learned so little there that I completely forgot how to work with some of the most basic programs.

ITT is horrendous and I want to see justice served to these greedy mongrels. I feel like my 60k+ tuition and time was worthless and would of been better off going to a better college for a degree that can back me up.

I started attending ITT right out of highschool, in fall of 2006 I believe. I achieved enough credits to grab an associates level degree but they gave me a choice to keep going and get my bachelors. So I decided to keep going.

I'm not going to be fake about this. I struggled throughout my education by trying to keep a full-time job and still going to school for 4 hours a night 3 times a week. My grades suffered and hearing and experiencing so many bad things about ITT while I was going there wasn't helping either. Things like, there wouldn't be enough books, so I had no book for my online class for several weeks. Other things like, the teachers have no actual experience with what they are talking about and they are just regurgitating what they have in a book.

I had just a couple of GE credits to get before I would be able to graduate with my bachelors degree. Since I was on probation I had to not drop any of my classes by missing 3 class sessions in a row. I was taking 2 classes on campus and 1 class online. I didn't realize that there was "attendance" for an online class. So for not being able to make "satisfactory academic progress", I was dropped from the online class and therefore, dropped from school. I've been in communication with the dean and chair and they tell me that I am not eligible to re-enter the ISS bachelors program. This all happened a couple of days ago.

I am now just above $100,000.00 in loan debt that I have to pay back. I have no degree. And now, since I've been investigating to see if I can transfer my credits to another school to finish, I am finding out that the credits I just spent ~5 years getting and $100,000.00 on are worth NOTHING TO ME.

I can't even log into to the student portal with my student ID any longer so that I can see what classes I have taken. (studentportal.itt-tech.edu)

I feel cheated and I have nothing to show for it except a pile of bills and a closet full of out-dated text books.

I was recently removed from my course of study fbecause my course completion rate was too low. I have a 3.0 GPA and cannot complete my degree. I did not find out untill recently that I cannot transfer my credits to my school of choice. I also can not apply for financial aid. ITT-Tech simply whisked me through the process to make their money. Now I'm thousands of dollars in debt and cannot pursue my educational goals. I feel scammed because my ITT-Tech councelor let me drop classes without telling me it could cause me to be removed from my program of study. It is very hard to contact them to get real answers. I want my money back or to be let back in school to just finish my degree and NEVER deal with ITT-Tech again

I went to ITT tech for 2 years thinking I was doing the best thing by getting for me and my family. Obiously not, a few months went by it was all great till third quater...I had class for autocad 2000 wich I thought was very odd being that we were in 07 so I went and had a chat with the Chairman in charge of the program I was wich turns out to be the same teacher that was giving the class.. I insisted that we learn the new up dated version of autocad, few weeks later we get autocad 06 which was aperently the only one they could their hands on at the moment, a little to late I replayed being that each quater is only 3 months, so he suggest we learn the new program on our own on our spare time. So then the comes 4th quater we get architectural drafting which was exiting for a few weeks till the teacher got fired for sexual misconduct or something in that nature then the chairman tells us he will be taking over, which wasn't a good idea cause he didnt know nothing about it , he said just to follow the syloubus tell they got a replacement....they never did. 5th quater starts and we start a new program called Inventor 08 which was even better than autocad, the only problem was that it was again the same chairman, he absolutely didn't know a thing about this program, so then a walk out of the class room directly into the Deans office and requested a teacher but didnt get any wheres, so I droped out instead now I have a debt of over $26,000 with no deagree

I went to ITT for almost 2 1/2 years. Graduated with honors. When it came down to 3 weeks before graduation, I applied to Moorpark College. I was informed I would need to take all of my General Ed courses, again at first. When I gave them my transcript... They told me I would need to get almost 100 credits before I could start my Bachelors program. They told me none of my credits were not transferable , ITT was not an accredited college! When I was choosing between ITT and DeVry, I was swayed with 1 on 1 tutoring available, and several online courses. The counselor was made aware of my goals to go pursue a Bachelors at another school. I wanted a specialty degree in my current field of work. I was told 2 things. 1) I could always take my bachelors here at ITT. 2) I could choose to go to another school and get a bachelors. Very misleading. This school is a trap... They make you spend several tens of thousands of dollars, and if u dont want to waste 3 years of your life, you must spend another tens of thousands to get a bachelors, and if you want a masters, you will look at spending almost $150,000. I was very dissapointed, i decided to not go to community college and start all over again. Considering I have already taken my General Ed courses, and several electives to get an AS.

I attended ITT Tech. and graduated in 2007 with honors and I had even made the Dean's list twice. I was told they had a job placement program and they would help me find a job. I was also given estimated monthly payments to repay my loan of $150.00 a month. Their job placement program was giving me a list of companies hiring, some of them had nothing to do with my degree (Computer and Electronics Engineering) and were paying $12.00 and hour at the most, I was making the same amount at the company I was with delivering windshields! 6 months after I graduated I got my first bill from Sallie Mae, $450.00!!! Not only this, but I feel as if I learned nothing, I even had one professor who would pass you if you turned in your homework, whether you had the correct answers or not. I am disabled now and have been for nearly 3 years, I am in defferment for my loans and the loan companies REFUSE to work with me. I have sent them the papers they requested so we could get the loan amount reduced, sadly, we sent them that paperwork nearly 2 years ago and still have not heard a word back. On top of wanting to file a class action against this "college" I am looking into filing agains Sallie Mae as well.

Right after I graduated from high-school I moved on to ITT to get my Associates Degree in their multimedia program. All throughout the recruitment process I was told that my credits would transfer should I wish to go to a different school after I finished at ITT. My program at ITT was $40,000 or so. I then decided to go to Devry University Online, it wasn't until I started the registration process with Devry that I learned that most of my credits from ITT would NOT transfer.

On top of that I'm now two years into my program at Devry and I'm informed that I've reached my limit on my student loans with $35,000 left before I will finish at Devry.

I believe the massive costs I still have left are due to the fact I have to retake nearly all of my classes that I took at ITT.

I took a few moments of my time to read and review some of the complaints and concerns here on this site regarding ITT Technical Institute. Like so many of the students and fomers here, I too feel like I have been misled by this school and the recruitment therein. I was led to believe that my credits would transfer over after this so that I would be able to continue on to achieve my bachelor's degree. After having attended for a full year and nearly $20,000. later I now realize that this degree is "non-transferrable." I was told that this school was nationally accreddited, however, when I asked if that would transfer over to other schools, they answered, "absolutely." This is, sadly, not the case. Now what? I can't afford to start over entirely in order to get my BS, and even if I could afford to start over, who wants to retake every single college math course etc. etc. Please help!!!

A ways back, maybe 5 or so years, something that has been ruining my life happened...

I was, like most of these people, duped into ITT. Actually, the recruiter bold face lied to me AND my mother and put us both into debt, painting this grand picture of success. I wasn't even at ITT for a year before I realized what a sham it was, and stopped attending.

What I was originally told was supposed to be a degree in "multimedia" turned to be out a generic degree in "business studies" as it would list on my diploma, which wouldn't even be respected ANYWAY.

I am now 2 years deep into having my tax return taken by student loan debt from a worthless "school", a company that's taking advantage of 10's of thousands of people.

I'd like at least some of my money back, I realize I should have been more aware, and this is my fault for signing on the line. but what these people do is atrocious. what's even more preposterous is that they've gotten away with it for this long.

Basically my debt of thousands (for just a few months of horrible classes) has been charged ridiculous amounts of interest, my life has suffered immensely from it. I've barely been able to get by.

I'm sick of things like this happening to people that just want to make their lives better. please help.

I went to ITT Technical Institute for an associates in Criminal Justice. The classes are assigned to the student every quarter like in high school, one quarter I was assigned only one class instead of the usual 3. I didn't think twice about it, I thought, "These guys are professionals, they know what they're doing". So now 3 weeks before I am to graduate, after completing the 96 units required to the associates program, I am told I have to take another class, but since it's just one class financial aid nor the student loan will pay for it & I have to pay for it out of my own pocket. It turns out the one class I was given a while back was not in my program, I was given a level 400 class for the bachelors program even though I only signed up for the associates, and now in order to graduate or receive my diploma I have to stay an extra quarter completing an extra class paying for it out of my own pocket for a mistake ITT made. I'm being penalized for their mistake!!!!

I now have wasted 3 semesters worth of tuition because they cancelled the degree program that I was in. They also never told me that it was cancelled, never gave me a single call. I found out because when it was time to start my 4th semester I had not been givin a new schedule so I went to the school to find out why. They then told me the degree was cancelled and that I had to be switched into another program which I did not want to do, then made me sign new paperwork for a degree that I did not want without explaining what had just happened. I have now dropped out of ITT and transferred to a new school (a public school into a new degree program thats not going to dissappear in a few months) and feel that I have been cheated out of a ton of money and time. I feel that they should have to reimburse me because THEY cancelled the degree program that I wanted and that program was the ONLY reason that I went to that school in the first place. They are the most shady people I have ever met to pull such crap.

I attended ITT Technical Institute for 2 years and obtained a Associate Degree in Multimedia. I feel like I was tricked into signing up eventhough I was looking to better my life at the time.

I didnt know how was going to afford college since my parents were not going to pay for my loans or co-sign. I was and still am a painter so I had to pay for my own education. And the recruiter told me that once I finished they would help find a good job and that "you dont want to be a painter for the rest of your life? do you?" eventhough painting paid my way through the little I could pay. To make a long story short. I was told that a two year degree would cost me 36,000. By the time I was done they wanted me to sign a paper which I refused to sign saying I owed 54,000. And they said if I didnt sign I wouldnt get my diploma and get to be in the graduation ceremony. I thought I would better my life by going there instead I have loans that I cant pay because I dont have a stable employment. The classes were run by part time teachers that would leave in the middle of class. And the degree I got when I did go to job interviews got laughed at when presented.

Graduated in 2nd networking class offered @ itt. was told 98% of grads go on to work in their field of study. was told about the extensive job placement program they have. Zero, no one in my class (that I'm aware of) went on to a career in networking. Maybe they just didn't know how to teach networking yet, as when I enrolled no one had yet graduated from their networking course (as I stated, I was in the 2nd networking class offered). I was never made aware during the recruiting process (i.e., they made sure I had no doubt that I WOULD, if I graduated, be a network administrator since there was extreme demand at the time for the title (BullS_it), until well after signing a MPN) of this. I, as well as every other person in my class was taken advantage of.

Aren't there laws to protect the consumer (thats what students are @ itt, customers buying a product, as anyone will attest to that has worked for the company. Also, instructors have percentages they must, or are strongly encouraged to meet. Percentages of what? THEY ARE SELLING A PRODUCT, NOT OFFERING AN EDUCATION. They are responsible only to shareholders) from bad products? Like lemon laws? This is technically about consumer rights.

If a salesperson at Sears tells you that a particular product or service will preform a particular way, and in reality, it clearly does not, are you not protected by laws, and able to get a refund on the product or service that you purchased?

I now am in my last quarter to only find out that my degree cannot be transferred out to another college or university. The courses were awful and my instructors left the school mid-way during 5 of my courses. I now owe roughly 43K with a useless degree that will not get me any where else.

I obtained a bachelor's degree from ITT Tech in 2009. I spent my first two years from 2001 to 2002. I learned fairly quickly that this degree meant very little to employers. I was promised by ITT during recruitment that my credits would transfer and that they would help me get a job in line with my degree. After graduation I tried to contact local universities, and found that none would accept my earned credits. I then started calling ITT for help in getting a job in the IT field. They began emailing me jobs that at a minimum required a bachelors degree. After a year of going back and forth with their "job placement" I stopped contacting them. I stayed in my insurance job until the economy got bad and reluctantly went back to ITT to finish my bachelor's. I graduated in 2009 with a 3.3 GPA learning as much as I could from the pitiful "hands on" learning they gave me.
For my capstone project I turned in the required pages amount with a drawing of network design I did in MS paint. I'll admit it looked like something a 3rd grader would of have created and I was given an A for this work.
I have no hope of getting a job in the IT field with the degree I "earned" from ITT. I did the required coursework and tried my hardest to learn what I could from this paper mill of a school. I believe ITT owes me the money they have stolen from me. All I want is my student loans taken care. I attended the classes and agreed to pay a fee for them. They did not create classes that in return could teach me how to be an ITT professional.

Like everyone else in here, I was young and naive in 1999 when I went to school at ITT-Tech. I could have never imagined that it was possible for a University to actually support you and incentive you to continue your education once you receive your associates, when "NO SCHOOL will take our credits." (I don't know if they were just ignorant, or did it and didn't care!) I checked with the school board to see, if that was legal. All they said it is unethical, but not illegal!

"Beth" recruiter in Indpls In. stated the following: "We are fully accredited and you can transfer to any school or university at any time without issue" several times before I was convinced to enroll.
after 2 years I transferred to West Covina Ca. campus. Each school altered my grades in algebra, trig, animation, and computer programming... to pass me along. In fact the instructor of algebra asked me to turn in my final face down. At each campus I would go to the deans office every quarter with concerns that I didn't have the basic fundamentals and was always assured there was nothing to worrying about and to go to class. I believe they were selling me a degree and before dropping out the dean would not see me or take my calls.
I have more to say but you get the gist...

It had been almost 2 years since I left ITT Technical Insitute in Indianapolis, IN. I started getting harassed by Sallie Mae regarding a loan I supposedly took out by myself. I come to find out that ITT Tech Inst. filled out a FAFSA for me and used some of the funds towards my tuition. I never aknowledged this loan to happen nor would my mom have allowed it seeing that she was there for the entire process and doesn't even know how this came up. Neither one of us had any knowledge of this until 2 years later nor did we have any of the paperwork from this loan or how it was used until it had already happened and it was 2 years later when we received copies. I am so tired of calling Sallie Mae. All they do is transfer me around to every other department, give me different amounts for the loan, different dates, or just plain hang up on me. I am at a loss at what to do. All of this happened amongst my wife and I's house search and has since destroyed my credit and put us in a huge hole to dig out of.

After spending 4 years at ITT Tech, I left with 80,000 in debt with interest rates starting at 11%. They promised job placement and only got me a job that was a total scam. I found a job that hardly covers the bills, but the upside is they would pay for graduate school. I have tried to transfer my credits to all the universities and none will recognize them. I would have to start over completely putting myself further in debt. I was not informed that I would not be able to transfer, nor that I would have to pay 1,000 in student loan debt. I will not be able to further my education, which would allow me to obtain a better job. Therefore, I will never be able to afford my student loan debt.

When enrolling in ITT tech I was assured they could get me a job and that they were accredited so credits would transfer. I am now trying to continue educatin and I not only have to start back at an Associate's degree but my credits are not transferable. I was told for the last year I was not eligible for Pell grants and that I even had to get a private loan with super high interest. To top it off even if I could transfer credits ITT tech wont give me official transcripts because my last quarter my student aid would not cover costs so ITT offered to give me a personal loan. As soon as I graduated they handed me over to a company GRS which it negatively on my credit report and started hassling me. I am up to date and making payment, but I was told today that with having a zero balance I cannot get a copy of my official transcripts for any other school. I was lied to the entire time and received low quality training.

Shortly after graduating ITT Technical Institute, I attempted to further my education at a state university. Not only did they say i would have to start over as far as credits were concerned, but that they would not recognize my associates degree in Multimedia. I was not aware of this, and no one at ITT ever mentioned that my degree would not transfer. I had heard rumors about credits but wasn't sure. I know now that ITT Tech is not only a waste of money (40,000 for an associates) but a waste of time.
