Case Details:
In 2011 I was diagnosed with C-diff and the gastroenterologist prescribed me Flagyl. I believe I took the generic brand since my insurance at the time wouldn’t cover the name brand. Within a week I started to have severe pain that started in my abdomen and went straight through me and up and down the left side of my back. The pain was so bad that I lay in bed for two days then I went to the hospital where they diagnosed me with acute pancreatitis. I knew it was due to the medication, however the hospital didn’t believe it. The doctor swore on his life and license to practice medicine that the antibiotic wouldn’t do that. However, it did. My gastroenterologist discovered that the Flagyl caused the acute pancreatitis. I was in severe pain for a few months due to this medication, and I was unable to eat, or sleep. I still have $3,500 worth of medical bills that I still can’t afford to pay.

Case Details:
I was prescribed flagyll in sept 2012. I had severe side effects to the drug which included behavioral changes and pain. Unfortunately when I asked the dr she advised me to continue the medication since I was almost done with the dose. I also get recurrent UTIs in which my physician rotates me between Cipro, Macrobid and Bactrim. My last dose of cipro was July of 2014. In the last 2 years I have begun experiencing lightheadedness, headaches and dizziness even if I am sitting or standing still, vision changes which include loss of sight for a few seconds. These episodes have increased over the last 8 months. In Dec I counted 11 episodes a day in average. I have seen my primary and all tests are negative. MRI is negative and am now scheduled with a neurologist. I have also never had migraines ( I am 44 yrs old) and in the last 2 years I have experienced 3 ocular migraines where I lose my vision in my left eye. I am just wondering if the medications have anything to do with my symptoms.

Case Details:
I am 46 years old now. I was being treated for an anal abscess or fistula and atypical cells in a PAP smear around the same time in the Spring of 2010. I did not receive antibiotics as a follow-up of the surgery on the abscess even though bacteria were found in the fluid. The abscess never completely healed and the problem started to resurface. So on a previously scheduled appointment with the digestive disease specialist, I was prescribed Metronidazole for one week – some standard strength and dosage schedule. Near the end of the week I faxed the specialist's office that after some improvement in symptoms, things had leveled off and then declined a little. She sent a prescription renewal to the drug store, but at a doubled strength, for another week. Nearing the end of the week I faxed her office that I could still feel the abscess lump and the symptoms had gotten even a little worse. She sent a duplicate of the higher strength prescription to the drug store. Nearing the end of that third week of the generic Flagyl, things had still not resolved, so I called the original doctor, a GP or internist and he suggested a new appointment. When I was in his office I mentioned something about the sore ankles and swelling and some side effects that I read about on the internet. He dismissed any connection and said that he would send a referral to one of the other doctors that I had seen (the digestive disease specialist, the general surgeon who performed the surgery, or the Ob-Gyn). I can check my records. By the time his office sent the referral and I received an appointment date, I had lost my insurance coverage (due to the end of my permanent employment) and had deficient insurance available at my temporary assignment, so I canceled the appointment.

I did not drink even a drop of alcohol while on this prescription and for a month after it ended. Around the time of this prescription, the slightest warm situation would send me into incredible, long “hot flash” episodes. Work task cycles/duties that I had completed many times repeatedly throughout the day almost automatically (previous to the prescription) would leave me sitting there confused as to the next step (while on the prescription and after it ended). I would get up from bed in the morning and stumble and have to take at least several steps or lunges, practically knocking over furniture in the process, to regain my balance. I started having ringing in my ears.

My ankles and/or knees have never recovered and it has been a problem on the job in future assignments because administrative assistants usually have to do a lot of filing in low drawers of file cabinets. My feet easily get very sore after very little walking or standing. They are very sore when I stand up in the morning or get up after having been sitting for very little time. Even as of this week I will often stumble when I get up after having been sitting for a while or when I get up in the morning.

I did not have a menstrual cycle for about five months beginning at the time of the prescription and my atypical cell biopsy. My cycles started again, but weaker and more sporadic. After a while they stopped almost completely more than a year ago. Maybe a year and a half. I know that I am getting on in years, but until that time I would have very long and large volume menstrual cycles. My mother went into menopause very late in life.

Previous to this prescription, around the Summer of 2009 I believe I took a course of Ciprofloxacin (7 to 10 days) for the original abscess.

Ever since my surgery on January 16 2012, I've had an average of at least 12 "vertigo' episodes each day, have fallen several times, and have limited my driving considerably -- my husband has extended himself to fill in.
Note: Saw an Ear/Eye /Nose & Throat Dr. & was told there aren't really any effective medications for this condition; that I should try and let it run it's course....................the condition is still just as bad!
