Case Summary: We have had a checking and savings account with Yellowstone Bank for 10+ years. They use the small savings account to cover any checking account overdrafts. They pay any overdrafts up to $200.00 with a $28.00 NSF fee for each check that bounces. Of course, this compounds the problem and causes even more bounced checks and more NSF charges. My husband and I are both over 65 and are on a fixed income (SSI). Our SSI checks are directly deposited into Yellowstone Bank each month, so have a negative balance before we even get paid. So far, this month, we are already in the hole $450.00. That's 2/3 of my SSI which doesn't come in until next week. The savings account is depleted. Case Detail: It doesn't cost $28.00 to reprocess a check. This is only another way for banks to suck money from their customers. The bank seems to encourage this practice by offering to pay overdrafts. By charging their excessive NSF charge against our checking account, they have compounded the problem causing more overdrafts. This is a nationwide shame and banking practices needs to be overhauled. So far, it seems that the banks are always "right" and the customers are...well, too bad. "Let them eat cake". |
