The debt collector offered me a payment plan, should I sign it?
Before agreeing to anything, understand exactly what document you'd be putting your name on. A stipulated judgment means formally agreeing you lost, that becomes part of the public record no matter how it's dressed up as a "plan." A settlement agreement with dismissal once payments finish is a genuinely different thing, one closes the case as unresolved-but-paid rather than as a loss.
Ask directly which of the two you're being asked to sign. Request a lump-sum number too, plaintiffs often take 30 to 60 cents on the dollar for cash today. Weigh that lump sum against years of scheduled payments before deciding.
