What is AB 1482, and does California's Tenant Protection Act cover my eviction?

Known as the Tenant Protection Act, this is the state law that put a ceiling on annual rent increases and requires a landlord to have "just cause" before ending a tenancy that's run twelve months or longer.

Common exemptions include an owner-occupied single-family home where the landlord isn't a corporate entity and gave the required notice, and newer construction, generally anything with a certificate of occupancy issued in the last decade and a half. Where a local city or county ordinance is stricter than the state law, the local rule generally wins out, so it's worth checking both layers, not just the statewide one.
