A debt collector already sued me, can I still bring my own claim against them?
A lawsuit against you doesn't automatically hand you a countersuit, but it's worth a genuine look rather than assuming there's nothing there. False statements made during collection, filing in a venue that isn't actually proper, or chasing a debt that's already outside its legal window, its statute of limitations, are all real, examinable issues.
The priority order matters here: if you've genuinely been served with their lawsuit, answering it by its own deadline comes first, full stop. A plaintiff-side claim against the collector runs on a separate track and doesn't buy you any extra time on the case against you.
